Is Kalen DeBoer right to call out Alabama, or is he just stirring the pot?

With the 2024 season right around the corner, every coach wants some heat for some weird reason. The Tides are all set to make it big this year. With Kalen DeBoer revamping the entire offense of the team and QB Jalen Milroe all set to become the next Heisman contender, who could’ve thought that, out of all the jabs in the world, someone would hit DeBoer with stealing charges?

That’s right folks, Miama HC Chuck Martin had informed that DeBoer had stolen their kicker Graham Nicholson. However, just a few hours later, on August 22nd, On3, gave us DeBoer’s response to the entire thing. “He went into the portal and we reached out to him,” DeBoer mentioned while laughing. If we look at what Nicholson has managed to achieve during his 3 seasons in Miami, it’s easy to understand why Martin is so salty about the entire thing. The kid went on to score a perfect 84% success rate at this field goal attempt. He landed 60 of the 71 total attempts. That ain’t all, throughout the 2023 season the kid has landed 27 goals which got him the Lou Groza trophy. Martin was understandably frustrated when Nicholson decided to put in for a transfer to the Crimson Tides in April.

“They illegally recruited our kicker and stole him from us,” Martin had noted during an interview. You can easily mark this portal move as a solid win for the Tides. While the team lost its most consistent kicker, Will Reichard, they managed to gain the perfect replacement. While under Nick Saban, seeing Alabama lose was a rare sight, however, the 2023 season brought us some really close games and we could see the team struggling without a consistent kicker. Now with Nicholson on board, DeBoer has pretty much secured a solid run for the 2024 season. However, this wasn’t the only win DeBoer managed to bag this year.

The boy comes home to DeBoer

Kadyn Proctor left the Tides after Nick Saban’s retirement, he had thought that things would be the same. However, back in June, the kid finally broke his silence. “Definitely regret it,” Kaydn had mentioned. DeBoer and the staff had tried to talk him into staying with the team but he decided to go to Iowa. However, now he is back. The first thing the OT did after returning back to Alabama was apologize to DeBoer. “I had apologized,” Kaydn had mentioned.

With him on the team, the O-line of the team grows even stronger. O-line coach Chris Kapilovic informed me during the first weeks of August that Kaydn has been doing great on the team. His overall work ethic has been great and the offensive line has grown considerably stronger. It ain’t no wonder why DeBoer was chosen to become the replacement for Saban. That man has the talent to take Tides to the same greatness that Saban had managed to achieve.
