Is Kalen DeBoer the next big thing in college football coaching after this elite prospect's commitment?

Kalen DeBoer’s winning streak continues! His Alabama team is now 4-0 after a stunning win over Georgia. In the intense SEC matchup, Alabama’s Ryan Williams hauled in a 75-yard touchdown pass from Milroe, leading to a 41-34 victory over the No. 2 Bulldogs. This win has Alabama buzzing about recruitment. According to a top source for Alabama football news, “There were OVER 100 recruits at the game tonight 😳” And it looks like DeBoer got even more exciting news that day, on top of the win. Talk about a double dose of happiness!

On September 29, 2024, Hayes Fawcett, a national recruiting expert, revealed the breaking news on his X account with the caption, “Alabama commit Darrell “Duke” Johnson has shut down his recruitment.” Moreover, the post depicted the statement of Darrell, where he mentioned, “I have found my home, I love it here.. I’m 100% locked in & shutting down my recruitment. Roll Tide!

Johnson also added, “I love it when the ball is in my hands because it’s just me,” expressing his immense love for football. The most intriguing fact is that he is a do-it-all type of player. You can see him playing as a defensive player for Alabama, but in high school, he played as a quarterback as well as a running back. Hence, in this fiercely competitive environment, Alabama may suffer a great deal if they lose such a versatile player. However, props to Kalen and his team for managing to keep Johnson with Tide for the upcoming season.

The elite prospect’s decision to stick with Crimson Tide made DeBoer and his staff’s efforts to recruit him totally worth it. As Kalen DeBoer and crew believed, this weekend has the potential to surpass Ohio State and reclaim the top spot in the 2025 recruiting class, which they currently hold at #2.

Have an interesting take?

In terms of 2025 high school player recruitment, Alabama is ranked in the top two by 247Sports. Of these commitments, five are 5-star players. However, as per On3recruits, only four 5-star players from the 2025 class remain uncommitted: Elijah Griffin, Justus Terry, Andrew Babalola, and Michael Terry III. Among them, Justus Terry was the one that Kirby Smart and Kalen DeBoer were both vying for. After Terry refused to accept Kalen DeBoer’s persistent efforts to recruit him, he was forced to pay Tuscaloosa an official visit in June. However, most people believe that the Bulldogs have a better chance than the Crimson Tide of obtaining Terry’s commitment. What do you think?

Hold on, let’s hear Terry’s take on this. He said during an interview, “Georgia’s been in my heart. They never left, to be honest with you. When it comes to my decision, I want to be close to my family but at a good school that can still develop me.” Well, don’t come to any decision right now! Because he had previously stated on Dawgs247 and Bama247 that he would only pledge on Early Signing Day in December. So, keep patience for that time and hope the best for your fav team. However,  DeBoer’s team might have a bit of an advantage now after they pulled off that surprise win against the powerful Georgia Bulldogs.
