Colorado Buffaloes finished 9-4 last season and produced gems like Shedeur Sanders and the Heisman winner Travis Hunter. Coach Prime then built a foundation for further glory and inherited a roster that has the potential to do wonders in the 2025 season, too. Currently, however, all eyes are on the player who would be stepping into the shoes of Shedeur Sanders. Mind you, it will be easier said than done.

Shedeur Sanders had a picture-perfect season last year. A season where the lethal father-and-son combo steamrolled opponents for fun and helped Hunter grab a Heisman. Shedeur finished the season with 4,134 yards at a stellar 74% completion rate for 37 touchdowns and is now moving on to seal a top place in the NFL draft. In the stalwart QB’s absence, however, the curious case of the inexperienced QB room starts to resurface.

Currently, 2 QBs are being touted to take Sanders’ spot. Those being the newly arrived Liberty Flames transfer Kaidon Salter and true freshman Colorado’s top prospect of the 2025 class, Julian ‘JuJu’ Lewis. The comparisons between the players are endless in the media, and no one knows which of the two will seal the QB1 spot. That being said, Kaidon Salter may have had some optimistic news in a recent revelation.

J.D. PicKell of On3 delved into and showed the talent that Salter is delivering in the recent spring practices. “This is the second independent clip I’ve seen of Kaidon Salter throwing a touchdown from the Colorado Socials. Could mean something, could mean nothing. But all I’m saying here is if Kaidon Salter is doing stuff like that, I’m juiced all right; I’m all the way juiced about that“.

Well, the clip shows Salter throwing an inch-perfect deep throw as Joe Williams rises and grabs the ball mid-air into the end zone for a touchdown. The pass was undoubtedly a thing of beauty to watch as it effortlessly glided in the air. But does that mean Salter means business? Well, Kaidon Salter does have the talent and experience to back him up. In the last season, the QB threw for 1,886 yards and rushed for 587 yards. Moreover, in the 2023 season, he accumulated close to 3,000 yards in passing and more than 1,000 yards in rushing. This essentially shows the type of talent the QB has. But that begs the question: what about Julian Lewis?

Julian Lewis, a concern for Kaidon Salter?

Well, Julian Lewis is the 2025 class’s 7th-ranked quarterback nationally. At 6 feet and 186 lbs, he may well not be a dual threat like Kaidon Salter, but his arm talent is sometimes compared to having a ceiling like that of Shedeur Sanders. Hailing from Carrollton, Georgia, the player broke the internet when invited to play in the Under Armour All-America game as an eighth grader. From then on, Lewis has surpassed all limitations and has been providing us with moments of brilliance ever since.

In his first two seasons at high school, the player produced 7,000+ passing yards for a whopping 96 touchdowns and ended his career with 10,000 total passing yards. He even signed an NIL deal very early on in his high school days with Everett Sports Marketing and bought a car for his dad. He said of the act, “I’ve got to help provide for my family. I bought my first car. I bought my dad’s car. It’s definitely been a blessing to go through the process. But I mean, my whole thing is football.”

Right now, the player boasts an NIL value close to $1 million, which has also created a buzz in the media regarding his exceptional capabilities. While he may lack the elite physical traits that coaches seek in a quarterback, Julian Lewis does have a quick-release hand and advanced game awareness. His versatility in picking and exploiting moments in defense is a bonus that may work for Deion Sanders. All in all, the player also looks to be well involved in the QB1 battle. Now, it remains to be seen who emerges on top post-spring.
