Deion Sanders had an illustrious career in the NFL as a player, where he won Super Bowls for fun and is a Hall of Famer. In college football, too, it seems Coach Prime is continuing his legacy so much that whatever the man touches turns to gold. A coach with a Midas touch is what he is. He swooped Travis Hunter from Florida State and delivered him a Heisman and fame. He called his son Shedeur Sanders into his fold and helped him deliver a season that will go into the history books of the Colorado Buffaloes. And guess what he is up to now?
He is out taking some elite-level quarterbacks and turning them into world-class talents. Sanders’s 2025 class is ranked 35th nationally and does not look quite elite-level at first glance. But that’s just on the surface. The man has got prospects who were mostly under the radar, especially his transfers. And now is looking to turn all of them to gold. One of those highly touted prospects is Julian Lewis, and it seems the trajectory is just upward from now on for the player.
Standing at 6 feet and weighing around 186 lbs, this is a player who promises to be the difference maker in the 2025 freshman class. He is ranked 7th in his position in the country and 56th overall. Furthermore, he is from Georgia’s Carrollton High School, which has a record of churning out talents like Caleb Odom and Reggie Brown. The player had thrown for 7,000 yards and 96 touchdowns only in his initial 2 seasons and is looking to be one of the biggest NIL earners in the coming days. Julian Lewis even landed his first deal for Everett Sports in high school and bought a car for himself and his dad. And now his father has come up with a message that will surely inspire the kid.

A popular X account had posted a clip of Buffs practicing indoors with high intensity. Guess who was at the center, throwing inch-perfect passes? Julian Lewis. The user wrote, “Julian Lewis throwing motion and arm angles are insane…He’s going to be special.” That last-inch perfect deep ball surely looks mouthwatering as it lands perfectly in the hands of a running receiver on the flanks. Julian’s father, T. Carlton Lewis, would surely have been proud seeing his son’s improving arm talent. He ultimately wrote a message and reposted it. “Day 3 with 6 months to learn and prepare #TrustGod #KeepWorking“.

Julian Lewis’ father knows that his son has a long road ahead in his development and only that QB1 spot would cut and nothing less. The guy also has the requisite talent to make that leap. He has a rare talent and strength that enables him to cover all three areas of the field. Then he has that pocket presence to make those decisions and evade sacks effectively. His athleticism and decision-making are also top-notch when compared to other top QBs in his class.

All in all, Julian Lewis is quite a polished quarterback at his age, but still, he will need to take his father’s words seriously to perform in these spring practices day in and day out till the season commences. That being said, he still has a reality to face.
What’s your perspective on:
Will Julian Lewis outshine Kaidon Salter and claim the QB1 spot under Deion Sanders?

QB battle takes a new turn for Coach Prime
The reality is that there is no guarantee that Julian Lewis will be the starting quarterback for the Buffs. Coach Sanders has signed another talent, Kaidon Salter from Liberty Flames, who is also looking to be the real deal. For starters, he is a dual-threat quarterback and has accumulated 5,887 yards in passing and 2,013 yards in rushing. Plus, he is also coming for his final season at Colorado, so it’s looking very unlikely that his QB1 spot will be a threat. However, Colorado’s offensive coordinator, Pat Shurmur, has another take on the issue.

Speaking about the QB battle between Julian Lewis and Salter, he didn’t quite pick any preference and touted the position to be quite open. “You bring in new players, and they come in and compete their b—- off, and our responsibility as coaches is to make sure we play the best player. So through the training sessions, because there is no preseason, we have to determine who the best guy is, and God-willing, we have a number of guys that can be the best guy, and they just go out there and compete…”
The OC particularly looked to dismiss any speculation about competition for the QB1 spot and termed it as the “healthiest QB room in the country“. Well, that may be true, but Colorado also has another QB in the pipeline, Ryan Staub, who will be entering his third season with the Buffs. He hasn’t seen many snaps and just has 1 touchdown for 254 yards. But he will also be looking to compete for the QB1 spot. Deion Sanders undoubtedly will have a dilemma, but it’s not something Coach Prime can’t handle, right?
