Is Adam Breneman's Tier 2 ranking of Tennessee Volunteers justified, or is it a major oversight?

‘No ranking is final’ in college football, folks! And analyst Adam Breneman proved that yet again. He came up with some top-notch infographics to give his take on the current scenario of programs- Big 10, SEC, ACC, Big 12. Well, not know about others, but the SEC slide is surely going to surprise you.

After all, it’s Josh Heupel and the Tennessee Volunteers who got a snub from Breneman. But did it cause the Vols HC to switch to complete panic mode? Not at all. Rather, he is uninterested in all these ranks as Heupel is on his way to spread his magic spell somewhere else.

If we take ESPN’s CFP Prediction Machiene’s data, it says that Tennessee will have an 88% chance of making it to the playoffs. Okay, now if that’s not enough, let’s dig a bit deeper into the SEC programs scenario. Heupel’s program has lost only one game this season. Sadly, that was not enough to impress Breneman who had put the Volunteers in Tier 2 as he came up with an IG post on November 22 stating, “My tier rankings for each Power 4 conference through Week 12.” Yes, that’s what makes it a clear outlier. Guessing why?

To get the answer you need to have a look at the programs he had put on the pedestal demoting Heupel’s boys who once topped the list. For Breneman, the programs that are eligible to find their place in Tier 1 are Texas Longhorns, Alabama Crimson Tide, Georgia Bulldogs, and Ole Miss Rebels. Now do you know all these programs share a two-loss record at this point? But sadly as Heupel and Co. waited for another loss by any one of these programs to get a free entry to the playoffs, Breneman pushed them into Tier 2. But who cares about the rankings? Not Heupel, at least.

Josh Heupel comes up with an all-positive take on the current situation

Is Adam Breneman's Tier 2 ranking of Tennessee Volunteers justified, or is it a major oversight?

Have an interesting take?

While the other HCs are fighting for the microphone to make their programs strive to make it to the playoffs heard, Heupel has marked himself safe from all these rat races. Instead, he has made peace with the fact that certain things are not in his control, like his program’s place in the rankings. Maybe he is still not over the referee bias during the Georgia game. Being a rather positive mentor, he stated, “End of the day, we have no control over the rankings. There’s still a lot of football to be played and we can’t control those things.” So why not better focus on things that are within his reach?

And as stated, Heupel is working for something bigger. This weekend is extremely special for the Tennessee fam as they will be hosting UTEP for the final home game of the regular season. Well, we know what value these games hold, right? The top target will be paying a visit to the Vols camp. Already, they have their eyes on an in-state speedster.

That’s none other than running back Daune Morris who has given his words to the USC Trojans and is now out on the road, trying options before his signing day. The other one in the line is the four-star defensive lineman Isaiah Campbell who will be in Knoxville. Do you still think that Josh Heupel will be interested in the rankings and not figure out ways how to woo top prospects?
