Is Joel Klatt right to snub Carson Beck for Miller Moss in the Heisman race?

It is only September, but the race for the Heisman Trophy is already heating up; all the players are showcasing their great abilities and perseverance. While the players are battling for attention, the fight between the starting quarterback of USC, Miller Moss, and two-time national championship winner Carson Beck is getting intense.

With back-to-back victories, the Trojans are letting college football and fans know their potential. It looks like head coach Lincoln Riley’s vision for this new season is very clear: to dominate and establish his team as one of the strongest competitors in college football. Not only the team but their key players are making headlines since their second victory. Sports analyst Joel Klatt recently distinguished between quarterbacks Miller and Beck. In his show, “The Joel Klatt Show”, he clearly snubbed Beck while lifting Miller in the Heisman race following USC’s 2-0 start.

Joel Klatt, who is known for his candid opinions, stated, “Most people also had questions about Miller Moss. Watching him in that game, I immediately thought to myself that looked like a vintage Oklahoma Lincoln Riley offense. This guy looks totally under control. He’s very accurate. Miller wasn’t the question for me.” Emphasizing Moss’s impressive performance in the last two victories.

Klatt further boosts Miller by reflecting on his season’s opener against LSU and adding, “Talk about big-time throws and at times willing your team down the field against LSU.” I thought he was so good; he was terrific in that game… Miller Moss with his performance against LSU… he’s not going to go anywhere.” Miller’s strong performance and accuracy on the ground are USC’s strengths and help them to fight aggressively.

Miller Moss shines against LSU and Utah State

The Trojans had two impressive victories: a 27-20 win in their season opener against LSU and a dominant 48-0 victory over Utah State. Miller has undoubtedly entered the conversation of who will win the Heisman Trophy this year in the first week of the season itself. He helped his team to a dramatic victory and threw for 378 yards and a touchdown. He also completed 75% of his 36 passes.

Coming to Miller’s performance against Utah State, he threw for 229 yards and scored a touchdown, although he was only part of the first two and a half quarters in his first home game. Trojans maintained their control throughout the night at the Coliseum. It is clearly visible that this year the Trojans have worked hard on their defense. Following their win, HC Riley said, “Very hard to shut people out in modern-day college football, so I’m really proud of us maintaining our play defensively the entire night, and the complementary ball was really good.” He added, “The offense did a good job running the ball. That was a big emphasis point, so we were proud of the way the guys responded,” highlighting that they are working hard on their defense as a team because their defense was a major problem last season.
