Is Sherrone Moore the future of Michigan football, or just another temporary fix?

Michigan will play its most important match against Texas in a few hours, and we have an important update on Sherrone Moore’s contract just before their big game. Joel Klatt provides an update on the head coach’s final contract under Michigan Athletic Director Warde Manuel.

According to Klatt’s conversation going viral on X, Sherrone Moore has signed the final contract, and the team is just waiting for the final steps at the university level. Joel Klatt mentioned, “Sherrone Moore has signed his contract and is just waiting for finalization at the university level. I am told that is an imitate process and this is an issue within the department, so, so this is a big story right before the top 10 match up, and it is nothing to be worried about.” Klatt’s statements confirm that Moore is officially the head coach for Michigan Wolverines, and there is nothing to worry about.

Although Moore has officially coached his first game as Michigan Wolverine’s head coach in this new season, he was one of the college football coaches without a formal contract. A few days ago, before Moore signed his contract, Warde Manuel addressed the matter in an interview with Jon Jansen on the podcast ‘Conqu’ring Heroes’ and provided an update on the head coach’s contract situation then. “We had a transition not only in football; we had a transition in basketball,” Manuel said. He added, “We’re dealing with NCAA matters. We’re dealing with the situation with our apparel provider and bringing on Legends as shortly as Saturday. These things take time, the contracts. They don’t just happen overnight, and there are things that have popped up, but they’re being worked on.”

Reason for delay in Sherrone Moore’s contract as a head coach

Coming to why Moore’s contract was delayed, Manuel acknowledged that Michigan was dealing with the NCAA investigation related to the sign-stealing scandal from 2023. The team self-imposed a one-game suspension for the former offensive coordinator due to recruiting violations. He served the suspension during Michigan’s season-opening win against East Carolina. He was also mentioned in a leaked draft of the NOA, which was sent to the team before entering the 2024 season.

The draft revealed that Moore knowingly deleted 52 text messages with Connor Stalions after they were connected to the sign-stealing situation. Although after the investigation the messages were recovered and shared with the NCAA. Despite the recovery of the message, Moore’s contract was delayed because there were worries that he might face more penalties as the investigation continues.

Moore has been part of Michigan’s coaching team since 2021 only because of their great connection with the team. Manuel assured that the team and head coach are both committed, and the delay in signing the contract hasn’t caused any problems between the two parties.
