Can Matt Rhule's Nebraska handle a Mahomes-like threat from Colorado? This game could be a shocker!

Matt Rhule might just have his own Patrick Mahomes at Lincoln! Okay, that might sound a bit cheesy, but Rhule does have one of the best QBs in college football right now.

Five-star talent Dylan Raiola made quite the impression in his debut against the Miners last weekend. And it wasn’t just his Mahomes-like look; his playing style was strikingly similar too. He led the Cornhuskers to a 40-7 win over UTEP. It’s pretty impressive, right? Especially compared to the Buffs’ tight 31-26 win. But hold up—Joel Klatt has some thoughts to add.

On his Thursday show, Klatt pointed out that the Colorado Buffaloes initially didn’t look “very solid” on either offense or defense. But they were up against NDSU, a much tougher opponent than the UTEP Miners. Klatt praised the Buffs for their second-half comeback to score 31 points and gave them his thumbs up. He added, “If they can be more disciplined, stay away from penalties, and create some run game on base downs, on first down and second down,” they could hold their own against Matt Rhule’s team too.

And it’s not just wishful thinking! Colorado has won the last three matchups against Nebraska. Plus, Klatt is hyped about the Buffs having the best “quarterback” and “non-quarterback” players in college football. Well, you know who we’re talking about. Klatt also points out how “Colorado has won the last 3 with Shedeur on the field and Travis on the field.”

That said, he’s expecting a close game with Matt Rhule and Raiola and predicts a 34-31 scoreline. And this win could be realistic, given that Deion Sanders probably has a game plan ready to handle the Patrick-Mahomes-like QB.

Coach Prime’s plan for Matt Rhule

Colorado vs. Nebraska is shaping up to be one of the season’s best rivalry games, with both teams looking even on the balance scale. Colorado’s offense is firing on all fronts with Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter at the helm. Even their receiving corps looks strong, with LaJohntay Wester and Jimmy Horn Jr. stepping up as the QB’s reliable targets. Well, Matt Rhule & Co. definitely don’t want to give any extra chances to an offense this potent.

On the other side, Dylan Raiola, despite being a freshman, has shown he can be a tough competitor. Even Deion Sanders sees him as a serious threat. In a conversation with Romi Bean on September 4th, Coach Prime praised Raiola’s performance against the Miners in Week 1. However, he also mentioned that he plans to “disable him” and “disarm him from getting comfortable as a freshman quarterback.” Sanders believes Raiola might be “inexperienced” compared to his own quarterback son, Shedeur, and sees it as a clear win for him.

Well, however, beyond Raiola, Matt Rhule also has the advantage of a supportive home crowd in Lincoln. With all these, can Rhule finally end the Buffs’ winning streak?
