These first-round games have divided the fans. As much as some fans would’ve loved to watch some SEC giants fight off for the title, instead, they got handed a one-sided Notre Dame vs Indiana and Penn State vs SMU game. Now, Lane Kiffin took the side of the “majority” and had quite the shot at the committee after that horrendous SMU vs Penn State game. “Way to keep us on the edge of our seats committee… Riveting,” Kiffin had written on X. Lions washed the floor with the Mustangs. Yeah, going into this, you would’ve thought that James Franklin would choke it, but boy, that SMU QB threw back-to-back pick 6, and the game ended with 38-19 as Franklin walked away laughing.
Many people did not enjoy this one-sided game, and, well, Kiffin was one of them, and his tweet showed it. However, Joel Klatt didn’t exactly enjoy what Kiffin had to say. He quickly fired back at Kiffin and that tweet kind of went viral. Now, the game is done and we finally have an explanation as to why Klatt decided to take matters into his own hands.
“Ever since the committee gave us the 12-team playoff, he has been chirping… I was broken and so I fired back… And you know what? It is what it is. Not gonna take it back, not sorry… But, this idea that he was going to continue to play these hypothetical games. I just get frustrated,” Klatt mentioned on his show.

If your team played half as well as you tweet you would likely be in https://t.co/tgpIFpxo8I

No hate on Lane because he is an amazing coach. 40-17 record with the Rebels and a massive revenge win over Georgia. But these hypothetical arguments shouldn’t be something Kiffin should be engaging in. Just saying “Oh yeah we could’ve done a better job” feels odd.
If you could’ve done a better job then how do you lose to a Kentucky team who were horrendous on 4-for-16? Like if you spent that much time building your offense and defense using the portal then how do you go for 1-for-10 on third downs? Somehow, Wildcats managed to survive by scraping off those fourth-down conversions, but your offense couldn’t?
And even the Gators game. Resorting to superstition to deal with the fact that your quarterback was throwing dimes to GATORS DEFENSE, mind you, where he doesn’t even have a receiver present? Maybe Lane Kiffin and Ole Miss game against Penn State would’ve been very fun to watch but you didn’t get in because you lost 3 games to very mediocre teams that were barely surviving their schedule this season. And honestly, it wasn’t just Klatt who called all of this out.
Shannon Sharpe takes aim
“Hey Lane, you can’t hate from outside the club,” Shannon Sharpe mentioned on his show. You had a shot at getting into the playoff bracket, but you couldn’t. Yes, Jaxson Dart made mistakes, and the overall offense could’ve done better, but it is fine.

Many fans didn’t expect this season’s entire playoff run to be much fun anyway. Yes, you have Georgia’s and Oregon’s games to look forward to, but many already know that SMU and Indiana are done for.
How does a Hoosiers team get past one of the best defenses in the country and how does an SMU team that has a strength of schedule ranked at 75 get past Penn State? Also, both home games for the Lions and the Irish.
“But you can’t lose to the games they lost and complain,” Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson also pointed out. Hey, on the plus side, you got that win over Georgia, right? That is good enough. Every Ole Miss fan knows how good Kiffin is for the team, and they also have faith that he will take the boys to the natty.
