Did Deion Sanders cross the line with his press conference snub, or is Whitlock overreacting?

Deion Sanders caused a bit of a stir earlier this week when he snubbed two media members. All because they had criticized him and his 4-8 program. But this stint fired back and now several are jumping in to criticize Coach Prime for what they’re calling ‘unprofessional’ behavior. Yes! That’s what sports columnist Jason Whitlock calls.

On August 9th, we saw a different side of the Buffaloes‘ head coach. During a press conference, as a CBS reporter was about to ask him a question, Sanders quickly dismissed him with, “I’m not doing nothing with CBS.” He clarified that he had nothing but ‘love’ for the reporter, but his issue was with the organization as a whole. However, this behavior hasn’t gone down well with the public.

Whitlock even shared his thoughts on X, with a brief clip harshly criticizing his actions. The sportscaster called him a “jack*ss,” and didn’t hold back further. He stated, “This is a great athlete, but not that smart at all. He thinks he’s playing chess, but he’s playing checkers. When you bully people and don’t engage, don’t expect them to be enthusiastic or know what to ask other than to genuflect in front of you.”

Now, the whole drama with CBS Sports is rumored to be linked to Deion being ranked 15th out of 16 HCs in the Big 12. It seems that the ranking has gotten under his skin. Thus, Whitlock brutally says, “You’re making a fool of yourself because you are unprofessional.” “You think you are the smartest man in every room, but really, you’re the most insecure person,” he added.

While Deion is catching heat for his icy demeanor, his inner circle is rallying around him.

Have an interesting take?

Deion Sanders didn’t just give CBS the cold shoulder; he also snubbed a Denver Post reporter on the same media day. When Denver columnist Sean Keeler tried to ask the Buffs’ head coach a question, Deion quickly shut him down, saying he didn’t want to engage. “You don’t like us, man… you’re always on the attack mode,” Deion said, trying to justify his actions. It may seem like Deion is holding a grudge, but he does have some defenders.

Shannon Sharpe brought up the incident on the August 11th episode of Nightcap. “Have you seen the video? Deion has some choice,” Sharpe said, stepping in to defend him. Co-host Chad Ochocinco chimed in, noting, “It’s a new season, and yet this specific reporter continues to write bad things about the program.” Next up, Deion’s confidant, Uncle Neely, weighed in. Now he believes that Keeler has always rubbed Sanders the wrong way. “Every time a question comes from him, there’s always a negative slant or an attack,” Neely noted. This could explain Coach Prime’s chilly behavior.

However, with the Big 12 matches just days away, Deion’s rough start with the press isn’t ideal. Now the best way for him to quiet the negativity is just a winning streak.
