Woah, call the cops, shots have been fired. See, James Franklin has been having quite the year. No one would have thought that a team like the Nittany Lions would end up in the top 4 spots on the latest CFB playoff rankings. This is some wild progress from James Franklin and his boys. However, there are some concerns. See, in CFB, the strength of the schedule is a big thing. For Penn State and Franklin, the schedule was relatively easy. The only challenge they could’ve had came from Illinois and Buckeyes and that is pretty much it. Yes, the Huskies can be another contender, but that team is just a hollow shell of its former self.

So, all of this brings us to what Bruce Feldman had to say about the Nittany Lions. Back on the Rich Eisen Show, Feldman mentioned, “The best thing Penn State has was a close loss at home to the number two team. Yep. Penn State doesn’t have anything great on their resume beyond.” To think that Penn State is sitting right next to the Longhorns is something not a lot of people can digest and what Feldman points out makes sense.

If we check the tapes, Penn State was struggling to win against a team like Bowling Green. They were down to 20-24 in the first half of the game, and the entire passing play from the team was abysmal. Bowling Green managed to collect 254 passing yards under their belt. Whereas Franklin and his boys only got 204.

Then came the disappointing loss to the Buckeyes. They did almost everything right during that showdown. Nittany Lions were up by 10 points early into the game with a field goal and a touchdown, but Ryan Day and Co. quickly turned the tables on Franklin and took away a 20-13 win.

The question is, if this team even manages to crack into the semi-finals, can they even win? See, right now, they have a high seed, and that will remain the case as the next 2 games for Franklin are against Minnesota and Maryland. Both of which have been horrendous. If they get put against Texas or even Ole Miss in the playoffs, do they even have a shot at winning? Another factor to keep in mind is that on the Big 10 list, there is one other team that is much more deserving of the No.4 spot.

Does Penn State truly deserve their top 4 spot, or is it all smoke and mirrors?

Hoosiers’ domination

10 games. 10 massive wins. Despite that, Indiana Hoosiers are sitting in the 5th spot under Penn State. Let that sink in. Curt Cignetti and Co. have done something that no other team can. These are the same guys who were 3-9 last year. Imagine that.

Now, if we are going for the entire strength of schedule debate, then Cignetti has faced much tougher opponents compared to Penn State. They had Nebraska and Michigan on their schedule. Those massive wins (56-7 over the Huskers and 20-15 over Wolverines) should count for something.

It seems like even the analyst hates Huskers football. If we look past the team rankings and at the players, QB Kurtis Rourke has been the cornerstone for Hoosiers’ offense and Cignetti’s undefeated run, yet you will never hear anyone talk about this guy. The perfect end to this debate will be a showdown between Hoosiers and Penn State.
