Jalen Milroe keeps on being one of the most controversial names of the season going forward. Alabama came alive against Missouri last week after weeks of sloppy performance, and so did Milroe. The impact quarterback scored two of the four impressive rushing touchdowns for Alabama on Saturday, assuring the fans and veterans alike that he’s not finished. Well, despite the week 9 stretch, the doubts keep lingering regarding the Texas native, especially when it comes to his highly touted NFL future.
While fans were generally concerned about Alabama’s playoff hope after their massive Tennessee slip, most of them were particularly concerned about Milroe’s future both in Alabama and the 2025 NFL draft. ESPN analyst Tom Luginbill deems him under-equipped to hit the thick of the national football league. ”He’s gonna turn his papers into the NFL and I’ll be very curious whether or not they tell him, you’re a first or second rounder or you need to go back to school. Right now, I would say they may tell him to go back to school.”

Milroe, the one-man army of the Bama, looked pathetically off in the past few games. While the recent injury rumors didn’t get a leg up, he was visibly very tentative and couldn’t use his mobility in the team’s favor. But what’s worst is that even if it’s a physical or mental runout, DeBoer doesn’t care to give him some time off that he needs the most to get back to his best. The outshot is simple: a dreadful NFL selection.
The QB phenom has crossed seas and mountains, leading up to this season. As a four-star recruit in 2021, to get the coveted starting QB position was anything but a piece of cake. He had to put his prowess on the test after test to be picked up as the one in 2024. To live up to the hype, Milroe delivered a Heisman trophy-worthy performance but quite overplayed his role in the offense, arguably leading to a drain out. As per Luginbill, ”Being banged up to the point where it can affect the playoff performance,” brings the high time to take the tempo slow.
However, to the contrary, Kalen DeBoer thinks there is nothing that can hold back the powerhouse QB of his team from stockpiling winning performances in his bag. He was not wrong though as we have seen the beast coming out from Milroe in Saturday’s shoutout performance against the Tigers. Coming to the NFL, the prospect looks highly promising, regardless of the health alert.

Is Alabama's handling of Milroe's workload jeopardizing his promising NFL future?

Milroe took flakes beyond his own performance. He was cornered even with the charges of sabotaging Ryan Willams’ growth by constantly targeting him with difficult passes. But apart from everything, one thing that makes him the man in the spotlight is his unbelievable rise on the draft board like no other. Thanks to his incredible dual-threat ability and blistering speed. The kid has nailed his stats at Alabama, inviting the conversation to potentially be the first overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Among the best landing spots, the Tennessee Titans are highly likely to finish as dead last in the NFL and take a chance at Milroe as the overall top pick of the 2025 draft, especially since their Will Levis formula failed to work out.
The Carolina Panthers and the New York Giants both are reportedly trying to get a piece of Milroe’s skill set. Their remaining performances can only decide which of the two will have a better chance of taking the legendary Alabama QB on board.
