Jalen Milroe went into this NFL draft with a lot of uncertainty. There were all kinds of predictions doing the rounds for him, and most of them were seeing the QB to be a second or third-round draft pick. However, this was just the beginning, as the story of Milroe in this draft class could even become a case study. The QB had a curious case to begin with, some peculiar talent that didn’t ‘conventionally’ fit in some traditional setups. But it all ends quite spectacularly for Milroe.
ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr., known for his accurate draft predictions, initially predicted the QB to be the 68th pick. Another mock draft by the Bleacher Report predicted the QB to go in the second round. Then there were mock drafts by the ‘NFL Mock Draft Database’ that placed the QB as low as the 59th pick. All of these started to make a case for the ‘mediocrity’ of the QB in the draft class behind the likes of Shedeur Sanders and Cam Ward. But all of this has now come crashing down.
According to recent reports, Milroe is going to attend the first round of the draft, as recently revealed in the NFL’s updated list. Ari Meirov, the host of the ‘NFL Spotlight’, shared the news on his X account. “The NFL has updated its list of player attendees for the NFL Draft in Green Bay: QB Jaxson Dart and DE Mykel Williams are out, CB Maxwell Hairston is in“. The list looks concerning for other QBs like Jaxson Dart and Shedeur Sanders, both of whom won’t be attending the first round now.

This essentially points to one thing: Jalen Milroe is probably going to go much higher than people have predicted him to go. As for other QBs like Shedeur and Dart, well, the non-attendance points to something of a ‘big-blow’ brewing behind. Jaxson Dart, in the recent mock drafts, was touted to go to the Giants and even the Steelers. ESPN analyst Mike Tannenbaum even declared the QB to be a good ‘fit’ for the Rams.
“I’m going to go with Jaxson Dart. I’m going QB. What do good organizations do? They’re opportunistic. Matt Stafford is year-to-year. They didn’t hit on Stetson Bennett. What a great situation to get a young athletic quarterback like Jaxson Dart, who really thrived in Lane Kiffin’s offense. Let him sit for a year behind Matt Stafford and then hit the ground running in 2026″. The idea was good, but there was a problem.
Rams might have been tempted to draft the QB in their 26th pick since they do not have a second-round pick. But their needs in the draft might have dissuaded them from doing so. Since the franchise has CB, LB, and OT needs in priority. Now that the draft attendees have been announced and Dart’s name isn’t there on the list. This essentially makes Milroe’s destination confirmed, i.e., going into the first round. But, where will the QB go?

Jalen Milroe is going to the Pittsburgh Steelers?
The Steelers are widely touted to be the team in need of a long-term QB and are looking at Milroe closely. Moreover, the offensive scheme employed by Mike Tomlin, which uses heavy run schemes, suits Milroe perfectly. Tomlin even met with the GM Omar Khan and head coach Mike Tomlin recently. Milroe also revealed some details about the meeting.
“It’s funny. Everybody has their own type of personality, right? You got the stern coach, you got the laid-back coach, you got the relationship-oriented coach. Coach Tomlin was chill, laid back when I met with him…it was a laid-back conversation. And of course, we talked ball. We talked about games and stuff like that. But it was definitely a more laid-back conversation.”

Veteran QB Aaron Rodgers was widely touted to join the Steelers after he hit free agency. He was then released by the New York Jets. However, to be honest, with Rodgers’ recent interviews like the one recently with Pat McAfee, it seems Rodgers might not be too interested in joining the Steelers or even playing in the NFL at all. So, with Rodgers’ move on the back burner, Milroe becomes a beacon of hope for the Pittsburgh Steelers with their 21st pick in the first round.
