This year’s QB class may lack the blockbuster hype of past drafts—aside from Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders—but hidden gems are waiting for the right opportunity. One of them? Jalen Milroe. History proves that quarterbacks don’t need to be first-round picks to thrive. Just look at ex-Alabama star Jalen Hurts, who went 53rd overall and became a Super Bowl QB. And Milroe could follow that path. But now, he’s facing a harsh reality, as a top analyst just exposed a major flaw in his game.

On the March 27 episode of The McShay Show, Todd McShay didn’t hold back. He exposed a glaring flaw in Jalen Milroe’s game, drawing comparisons to Brady Quinn, Tim Tebow, and Will Levis—and not in a good way. Although McShay praised Milroe’s raw talent, but warned of a dangerous trend: too much muscle, not enough flexibility. Then he made it clear—raw talent alone won’t cut it in the NFL. And McShay highlighted a major concern, saying, “Flexibility over muscle mass is going to be one of the major things that has to change for him. I can’t allow him to become Brady Quinn, Tim Tebow, Will Levis.” Because “It don’t work,” said McShay bluntly.

On top of that, he stressed that Milroe must focus on accuracy and touch, not just power. Beyond mechanics, there’s another red flag—processing speed. McShay questioned whether Milroe reads defenses at an NFL level, a trait that separates great QBs from struggling ones. Is Milroe able to break the pattern? Despite being standouts in college, Tim Tebow and Brady Quinn had trouble finding long-term success in the NFL. Quinn also broke records at Notre Dame but struggled in crucial situations, casting doubt on his composure under duress. Although Tebow’s leadership was undeniable, the NFL scouts were concerned about his ungainly throwing technique. Both had great hopes going into the league, but they were unable to convert their college excellence into sustained NFL success.

However, McShay was blunt in his comparison of Milroe’s difficulties to those of other QBs. He recognized aspects of Vince Young, a talented quarterback who flourished on unprocessed skill but found it difficult to process information at the NFL level. Well, “Vince Young was missing the processing because he always got away with it at Texas. And he didn’t have to learn all that, and he didn’t have to know what the defense was trying to do to him. He didn’t have to be a step ahead of the defense ’cause he was so damn talented and so damn athletic,” stated McShay. He also identified the main weakness, which was that Young wasn’t an accurate passer by NFL standards. So, Milroe needs to demonstrate his uniqueness right now, or else he runs the risk of experiencing the same difficulties when he advances.

But don’t worry Bama fans! Time is one of the main distinctions between Jalen Milroe and Vince Young, according to McShay. “Now, here’s the difference, though. Jalen’s a smart young man, and the team that drafts him on day two is gonna have time. VY did not have the luxury of time. So that leads me to believe Milroe’s got a chance,” stated the analyst.

Look, Kalen DeBoer was candid in his assessment of Milroe’s performance on Pro Day. DeBoer made sure everyone was aware of the spectacle the Alabama quarterback put on. DeBoer complimented Milroe’s dynamic skill set by saying, “He can throw it to all levels of the field… the running piece speaks for itself.” In all honesty, Milroe keeps demonstrating that he is a true dual-threat quarterback who is suited for the next level because of his rocket arm and exceptional agility.

The NFL destiny of Jalen Milroe

In addition to acquiring a seasoned quarterback, the Raiders secured their starting quarterback for 2025 when they acquired Geno Smith. Now that an extension is being discussed, they want to keep him on for even longer. Smith, meanwhile, isn’t the long-term solution at 34. In all likelihood, he has three good years left. Therefore, it makes perfect sense for Vegas to select a young quarterback in the draft. Allow him to gain experience under Smith, hone his skills, and be prepared to assume leadership when the time comes. Thus, the future begins today.

Jalen Milroe is suited for this position. Before he is prepared to assume the lead as an NFL starter, he needs at least one season to mature. However, he is a wise investment at the most crucial position in football for a possible third-round choice. It might be ideal to pair him with offensive genius Chip Kelly.
