Is Alabama's playoff comeback a fluke, or is Jalen Milroe the real deal this season?

Alabama is back in the playoff picture and with a banger. After going back and forth with their performances, the Tide easily tackled LSU in a huge week 11 clash away at Baton Rouge and silenced all the naysayers who gave up on their comeback. The ultimate architect of the ‘legacy restored’ is none other than Jalen Milroe, the go-to guy for Kalen DeBoer, who kicked off the game with a 39-yard TD and then burst it out with full vigor in the fourth quarter, tallying a 72-yard run. The passing numbers may not look impressive but look at those rushing yards: 185 yards, 12 carries, and 4 touchdowns. Unfortunately for LSU, Milroe’s rushing TDs have become a familiar feature in his last two outings against Brian Kelly’s team.

But Milroe wasn’t this stormy throughout the season. He looked quite off the place in some of the recent games, which is something he is still paying for despite a career-high game. Pointing the past woes, NFL great Shannon Sharpe noted, ‘‘There were some games that they lost where he turned the ball over and Alabama’s defense isn’t what it once was they used to be. They had Quincy Williams, they had Jonathan Allen; they had the D Linemen that could go hunt right and they had corners and safeties on the back end. They don’t have those types of players right now.’

Despite the past slips, Milroe is worth every bit of attention he has been garnering since the spectacular LSU game. After his four rushing touchdowns against the Tigers, the 21-year-old bagged Alabama’s single-season record for rushing scores by a quarterback, topping Jalen Hurts’ 13 since 2016. He was purely phenomenal throughout the whole game except for the last few minutes when the team, climbing to a safe score, let him enjoy the win from the bench.

After the quintessential win, the standout QB gave it all back to the team, which made room for him to shine and achieve spellbound growth in his career. Paying a hat tip to coach Kalen DeBoer, offensive coordinator Nick Sheridan, the player on the highlight, said he is eternally grateful for being an Alabama quarterback.

‘I’m going to do my best and just try to do what’s best for the football team and our offense’: vision is set and clear. However, what Milroe did at the Tiger stadium was not just an instant fluke but rather a minute of homework.

Jalen Milroe had an ace in the hole against the Tigers

Milroe took the best out of what LSU served him in 2023, leading to 219 passing yards with 155 rushing yards and four touchdowns in the Crimson Tide’s memorable in Tuscaloosa.

Milroe just recreated the history at Tiger Stadium but with better output, contributing 109 passing yards, 185 rushing yards, and four of Alabama’s six rushing touchdowns. Before the game kicked in, Milroe spilled that he closely reflected on what he did against LSU in 2023, as he didn’t want to leave any stone unturned in favor of a potential win on Saturday.

DeBoer wasn’t with Alabama in 2023 to watch Milroe’s LSU dominance, but he realized how much the boosts the previous success must have given him ahead of a stellar week 11 clash. “He probably had some good vibes from a year ago, too,” said the present Tide coach.

The coach couldn’t appreciate more his quintessential offensive guy after Saturday’s huge comeback game. ‘He’s got a superpower when it comes to running the football. You can see him not just be a guy that gets first downs, but finishes in the end zone,” DeBoer pointed out what made Milroe stand out among the rest.
