Nick Saban's retirement: End of an era or time for Alabama to find new leadership?

I didn’t like how it would impact the program, the players, the coaches, the people in the organization, the university,” said Alabama Crimson Tide, former head coach Nick Saban after announcing his retirement. The moment Nick Saban announced his retirement, the entire program was shaken to its core. Surprisingly, the news came out to the team when Alabama faced an embarrassing loss of 20-27 against Michigan. However, in a recent conversation, Jalen Milroe and his teammates discussed how they felt about Nick Saban’s sudden exit from the team when they needed him the most. Let’s see what they are talking about.

Today, in the New Wave Podcast Crimson Tide, star quarterback Jalen Milroe, wide receiver Ryan Williams, and safety Red Morgan discussed their situation and mindset when legendary Nick Saban left the team. In that discussion, Red Morgan talked about his craziest experience on the team, saying, “Man, when Saban retired, that was wild. That was one of the craziest moments. It was our first day, our first meeting with Saban, and I thought he’d just come give us a pep talk after the Michigan loss. But then he said he was retiring, and my mind was racing.”

Morgan also mentioned how he was looking forward to learning from Saban and wanted to leave the team as soon as he got the news, saying, “Honestly, I thought about leaving. I think everyone did. My heart was pounding, but after talking to my mom, she convinced me to stick it out and see what the new coaches had in store.”

Well, matching Nick Saban’s aura is impossible. That guy won six national championships with Alabama. Moreover, Saban never stopped supporting his former team. During the Crimson Tide season opener game against Western Kentucky, the whole Saban family went to support the team. Nick Saban’s daughter shared their family photo on her Instagram, captioning it, “Very demure.” Nick has always been an Alabama supporter. He even appreciated Tides’ new head coach Kalen DeBoer’s coaching style during the scrimmage, saying, “Embracing the team’s tradition and culture.” Now that Nick is on a new journey, let’s see if the support still remains the same.

Have an interesting take?

Nick Saban’s versatility is beyond excellence. This season, he started a whole new journey in college football as an analyst for ESPN. Even Saban is enjoying his new job, giving game insights and his opinion on the teams. “ESPN and College Game Day have played such an important role in the growth of college football, and I’m honored to have the opportunity to join their team,” said Nick Saban while discussing his game day debut.

However, being an analyst has its own hardships. Next week, the Alabama Crimson Tide will be facing the Georgia Bulldogs in Tuscaloosa, and unlike other seasons, this time, Nick Saban will be sitting at the desk and giving insights. Ironically, Alabama lost against the Bulldogs in 2007, which was Saban’s first season. Even though we know Nick Saban’s history with Alabama, he will be forced to choose between the two teams. It will be interesting to see which team Saban picks. What are your thoughts on this? Do let us know in the comments!
