Is Nick Brooks the future powerhouse of SEC football, or just another overhyped recruit?

Steve Sarkisian has landed a “huge” recruit. We mean that literally! The Texas Longhorns just secured their big fish, the first true tackle for the 2025 class. And it’s none other than Nick Brooks.

Brooks comes from Iowa’s Cedar Rapids as a coveted 4-star offensive tackle. Banking on the fame, he made visits to several big-time programs this year. From the Georgia Bulldogs and USC to even the Colorado Buffaloes, several programs were vying for his commitment. For a while, it seemed like he was torn between SEC powerhouses Georgia and Texas. But in the end, the Longhorns came out on top.

On August 23, Nick Brooks officially committed to Sarkisian’s 2025 roster. This is a “big pick” for them, literally and figuratively. At 6’8″ and 345 pounds, he’s the biggest recruit in the SEC. He’s also the No.1 recruit from Iowa and the No. 19 offensive tackle overall. Even 247Sports ranks him among the top in their 2025 Football Commits for the SEC.

Steve Sarkisian needed such a powerful addition, especially after 5-star OT Michael Fasusi chose Oklahoma over Texas. Just days after Fasusi’s commitment to the Sooners, Brooks stepped in, giving Texas fans renewed hope. A silent recruitment battle is brewing, with Oklahoma and Texas entering the SEC this year. But Sarkisian has scored his big win with Brooks.

Brooks officially visited Austin in June, and the experience sealed the deal. “Texas brought me in like family, and me and my family loved it… Texas is the school that had my heart,” Brooks told On3. This new Longhorn is set to join the roster with other top talents.

Nick Brooks joins Steve Sarkisian’s massive roster

Steve Sarkisian definitely knows how to recruit “huge dudes.” Nick Brooks isn’t the only massive player joining the Texas Longhorns’ offensive line. He’ll be joined by 6-foot-5 OT Jordan Coleman and his 6-foot-4 brother Devin Coleman. These additions will align with returning recruits Andre Cojoe and Cam Williams, who are also impressively large.

Well, Sarkisian hasn’t just relied on his recruiting skills for that. The HC has also made splashy moves to attract top talent. This year, Texas partnered with Lamborghini, and the Austin branch of the luxury car brand provided unique cars in the team’s colors—orange, white, and black. These flashy vehicles were on full display at the entrance of their facility when the 2025 recruits visited in June. With such eye-catching efforts, Sarkisian remains quite confident in his recruiting strategy. “I’ve never been one to panic in recruiting… we kind of believe in our process,” he says, showing his trust in his track record rather than relying solely on flashy perks.

Last year, the Longhorns had a good 12-2 season and landed 5-star recruit Arch Manning. With a massive $2.4 million recruiting investment, they landed 9 top players that year. It’s now officially time for the Longhorns’ SEC dominance!
