Okay, so, when Graham Mertz was escorted out of the turf because of his season-ending injury, it started a new era for Billy Napier. Albeit being built over the ashes of their starting QB, Napier and the Gators managed to give fans quite the game against Kentucky. And who was in the center of it all? The new starting QB is DJ Lagway. This guy single-handedly changed the scene for Gators football with 7 out of 15 pass completions and 259 yards against the Wildcats. Gators secured their second 40+ points game against Kentucky.
But as the Gators take the field against the Dawgs and Kirby Smart‘s masterful offense and defense, it will be Lagway who will get Napier the W, but it looks like this dream won’t be coming true. As we checked out the game, Lagway was spotted being carted away. College Football Report quickly took to X to mention, “DJ Lagway is down on the field.” It seems to be a hamstring injury and there is zero confirmation if Lagway will be able to make it back for the remainder of the game. This is bad. Napier and Co. going into this game, had only one answer to Carson Beck and his domination as a QB.

DJ Lagway is down on the field 🙏
Seems to be hamstring related
— College Football Report (@CFBRep) November 2, 2024
Even if we check the scoreboard, the Gators are up by 10 points and the Dawgs are tailing behind with 3 points on the board. Lagway had managed to grab 2 out of 6 pass completions and 1 touchdown in the 2nd quarter. It is being reported that it is a left hamstring injury.
Replacing Lagway will be Aiden Warner, and we have no idea if this guy will manage to pull the Gators to a W. You gotta keep in mind that even though the Dawgs have started slow, more so because of the abysmal plays Beck is making (2 interceptions already), the Gators offensive depth is in trouble without Lagway.
Even Kirby Smart has a lot up for stakes. If the Dawgs lose this game, it will mark their 2nd disaster loss this season. The Bama stain still hasn’t washed off, and adding Gators to the list won’t help the team’s chances of making the playoffs. And we cannot even skip past the Vols and Ole Miss. If Beck is doing this badly against Napier’s sub-par defense, then we have no idea what he will do against Tennessee. The question now is: does Napier still have a shot at winning this, or is the team going to lose out on their Bowl game eligibility as well?

Billy Napier era at risk once again
This season started off with everyone pointing fingers at Napier. Why? Because of his slop-sided decision-making. Instead of using Lagway early on for the games, Napier went for Mertz. What did that cost them? A loss to Hurricanes and Aggies.
The whole fanbase was on board with the “fire Billy Napier” idea. However, this guy finally managed to salvage his reputation when the team went up against the Wildcats. Not only that, Napier finally brought out Cormani McClain on the turf as well. It felt like Florida football was back on track, but here we are.

Based on the stats in the first half, Dawgs have already covered 154 passing yards, along with 5.6 yards per play. The Gators, on the other hand, are stuck at 47 passing yards ONLY. Yes, Smart’s offense is yet to pick up pace but we know how this team works. They will find a way to turn things around in the 2nd half and push Napier to the edge. If Warner pulls off a miracle, the Gators might pull it through but at this point, every possibility seems bleak.
