Shedeur Sanders and Colorado: Are we witnessing the rise of a new powerhouse in college football?

The fever that surrounds the Colorado Buffaloes at the moment is inexpressible. From being the team that everyone would hate so often, to now being the most-talked-about program in the Big 12, a new wave of change has swept over the city of Boulder where pride is the thick blanket they’ve enveloped themselves with. After their blowout victory against the UCF Knights, the Buffs stand at a 4-1 record and the 2nd rank in the conference, right behind BYU. Knowing the viewership that usually comes with Colorado games, their next match-up against the Kansas State Wildcats might just be one of the biggest games of the season, especially since both of them currently stand on the same 4-1 record.

On the 1st October episode of the ‘Zero 2 Sixty with Matt McChesney’ show, the host and Bailey Price sat down to discuss their takeaways from Colorado’s dominating win against the University of Central Florida. Later, in one of the segments, he talked about their upcoming game against the Kansas State Wildcats and mentioned how the schedule was planned out so that these two giants could battle it out for the elite bragging rights.

McChesney was heard saying, “I mean let’s be real. The schedule, they put it there for Kansas State and they also put it there for Colorado. So, it’s a massive massive game in the Big 12. It might be the game of the year so far in the Big 12. So I’m really looking forward to it especially, with both teams coming off of bias.” Thus, this ultimate showdown is likely a make-or-break situation for both teams in order to keep their hopes of a playoff alive but that’s not the only reason why this game will be so interesting.

The viewership records that come with the Colorado Buffaloes always take the cake in the Big 12 conference. Their season-opener against the North Dakota State Bisons was ESPN’s highest-rated college football opener in seven years, garnering an average of 4.8 million viewers. Deion was heard remarking, “Whether you like it or not, you want to see it.” Though their game against Kansas State is bound to also bring in a mass abundance of views, here’s why the game will be all the more fun to watch.

The nationally televised game on ESPN will witness Dylan Edwards, the former Colorado running back, play for Kansas State against his former school. Edwards was a part of the mass exodus that left the Colorado Buffaloes after their disastrous 2023 season along with players like Cormani McClain and Xavier Smith. But now that their success is on the rise, the men in black and golden will surely want to show off their might to these players who deserted the team especially Dylan Edwards, who might just be subjected to some prejudice from Deion’s team.
