Is it time to stop underestimating the underdogs after Vanderbilt's shocking win over Alabama?

Have you, in your wildest dreams, ever thought that a team like Vanderbilt would manage to bring a powerhouse like Alabama down to its knees? Kalen DeBoer and his boys are on a 28-40 run against the Dores and it seems like there is no hope left. With barely 3 minutes left on the clock, Kalen DeBoer has to accept this loss and so does every Tide fan out there. But most importantly, it’s time to realize that the underdogs also have the potential to flip the powerhouses at any time.

That is exactly what Timothy Johnson points out on X. “I hope everyone who criticized Miami for being a “fraud” in a WIN—Go take a look at – Bama currently trailing Vandy 23-14 at half,” Johnson mentioned in his post. The entire Miami game was extremely dramatic. The Hokies almost managed to take it home with QB Kyron Drones Hail Mary. However, after review, it was determined that it was an incomplete pass.

People were quick to call out the entire game as “fraud”. You gotta keep in mind that the ACC had released their statement, mentioning that the football was already touched by a Miami player. This renders the entire play incomplete and ends the game.

Coming back to the Vanderbilt vs Alabama disaster. Johnson’s main point was that even underdogs like the Dores have the potential to snag it away from big-time players. If people can call Miami’s fair and square in a fraud, then this game should be a fraud as well.

While Bama still has a minute left on the clock with 35-40 on the scoreboard, winning this feels next to impossible. We can only wait and watch if Ryan Williams or QB Jalen Milroe manage to pull a trick out of their bags or not. However, as we wait, why not discuss the main problems that plagued Bama during this showdown?

Have an interesting take?

Kalen DeBoer’s defense was a mess

The Commodores managed to stun the Bama’s defensive line with such ease that it was borderline painful to watch. Randon Fontenette managed to snag a 29-yard interception and returned it for a touchdown.

To say that the defense was in shambles would be an understatement. Bama allowed Vanderbilt to have 166 rushing yards during the game. The Tide offensive line, on the other hand, managed to snag only 84 rushing yards. Props to Ryan Williams for landing 2 gaming-changing touchdowns. First at the end of the 3rd quarter and the second one at the end of the 4th quarter.

However, all of it just wasn’t enough. Maybe the Tide needed this reality check. Just like Deion Sanders and the Huskers game. We do know that DeBoer and his boys can bounce back from this, but this game is definitely going to haunt the team going further into the schedule.
