It looks like Wisconsin Badgers head coach Luke Fickell is putting in every last effort to salvage their season. We can say that because his actions say that after he fired his two-year offensive coordinator, Phil Longo. “I’m committed to doing everything we can to close out this season with success,” Fickell said after firing Phil Longo. But who’s going to fill the vacant place left by Longo? The college football world is eager to learn a word from the head coach, especially ahead of a crucial game against the Nebraska Cornhuskers.
Well, it looks like Fickell is not in the mood to reveal the face of their new offensive coordinator. That raises a question about the plan caller of the Badgers’ upcoming game. A Wisconsin insider, Rajeev Badgers, pointed out who’s going to do play-calling for their next game on the November 18th episode of the Big Huddle podcast. “It looks like the sort of interim OC is Nate Letton, who’s our tight ends coach, so he is going to be the guy.” Rajeev gave a little clarity on who’s going to be play-calling before a regular offensive coordinator gets hired.
Will he manage all the playcalling alone? Or someone is going to accompany him? well, Rajeev Badgers answered that question also. “It looks like he and Kenny Guyton, who’s the wide receiver coach, are going to do it together. Maybe it’s like you know by committee. He could have just said, Yeah, Nate Letton is going to get to make play calls, or it’s going to be Letton and Guyton.”

Although it’s not officially revealed yet who’ll do the playcalling, the best guess right now is the Badger’s tight ends coach, Nate Letton. Chances are the wide receivers coach Kenny Guyton is also going to join him for this job. With that, let’s learn what Luke Fickell said in his official statement about finding the replacement for Phil Longo.
Luke Fickell gave a diplomatic answer about playcalling
It’s not like Fickell woke up one day and fired Phil Longo; Wisconsin’s poor records answer it for him. Their rushing offense is currently ranked 57th in the nation with 169.3 yards. Although it’s a little better than their offense, which is at the 91st rank with 363.1 yards. The Badgers offense is struggling to fit among the other powerhouse offenses this season.
After giving reasons for firing Phil Longo, Fickell revealed his plans for the upcoming game against Matt Rhule’s boys and who’s going to do the play-calling in that game.“Why does it matter? The offense will be run and those guys will do a lot of things collaboratively together. I don’t think it really is important as to who is calling it. I guess it gives you the ability to point a finger at somebody if that’s the case.”
Aside from wide receivers coach Kenny Guiton, no one from Wisconsin football has the experience of the offensive coordinator. With that, all eyes will be on their upcoming game. As per most of the experts, Nate Letton is going to do the job who has been with the Fickell since his time at Cincinnati. Likely, Fickell will not add a new name to his staff while there are only two games left in the season.
