Alabama fans couldn’t get an outlet to release their pent-up frustration against the Alabama football’s sloppy loss against Vanderbilt. Kalen DeBoer got lucky to escape two upsets in a row by securing a close 25-27 win against South Carolina. Finally, the collective rage had a bitter outburst after the Bama came up short against the Vols with a humiliating 17-24 loss. But it’s not only the fans who are blaming the new DeBoer era for the unexpected slip.
The CFB community is already giving up the slim playoff hope, proving Nick Saban’s warning right. The former coach has already alerted DeBoer, saying he“can’t make any predictions about the future in terms of what people’s patience will be. They don’t have a lot of patience at Alabama. They have high expectations. You can’t get caught up in that.” Now, adding to the tension, Alabama AD Greg Byrne seemingly handed another ultimatum to the squeezed coach Kalem DeBoer in a closed-door meeting. Rumors are floating that something has to give at the Tide, and Kalen DeBoer better change the team’s fortunes on the field to have peaceful sleeps going forward, or he could be in the market for a job.

The water seems really boiling for the former Washington coach, and the lackluster performances haven’t helped his case. Already under a mountain of pressure to replace the GOAT, DeBoer would have hoped for a smooth start, and he got that. 4-0 record, a win over the Bulldogs, and a perfect start to a post-Saban life. Since then, it has only gone downhill. The defense looks awful at times, and when DeBoer manages to get his DC to sort that, the offense forgets how to run a successful drive.
In between, Jalen Milroe seems to be back to his old self, throwing picks, pass attempts going way above the receivers’ heads, and simply failing to grasp that he’s holding onto the ball for too long. That has been the theme against South Carolina and the Vols. Will things improve? Let’s look at what DeBoer said after the loss against the Tide’s foremost rivals, the Tennessee Volunteers.

Kalen DeBoer keeps his chin up even after two massive losses
Taking charge of a living legend like Saban was no easy task. When the veteran retired, talking the Bama to a surreal high, the regents quickly found a replacement in DeBoer, but appeasing the doubtful players and fans was totally on the new coach’s stature. DeBoer has quite reached there to earn the trust, surpassing all the unnecessary comparative narratives unless the massive Georgia upset blurred it up. But DeBoer refused to let the spirit down, dishing a cheerful speech for the players in the locker room right after. And guess what, there was no change in his headspace after the team underwent the second blow on the road.

Is Kalen DeBoer the right man to lead Alabama, or is he crumbling under pressure?

DeBoer continues being the luminary guardian angel of a doomed team. The philosophy is simple yet profound: ”One side of the football has highlighted moments and the other side stumbles. And some missed opportunities. You try to look inward after every game, and we’ve got to continue to do the same.”
