It won’t be too much to say that Jalen Milroe and Ryan Williams are going to be college football’s Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce. But their bond is more like a brotherhood standing up for each other, always. In a recent appearance at ”the Pivot podcast’‘, Alabama’s star quarterback Jalen Milroe discussed his thoughts about Alabama’s freshman wide receiver, who has made his mark on college football.
On top of that, he explained, Ryan has made his mark at such a young age. “His age is 17; he is a guy who came in the summertime; he didn’t even mid-year right. So in a sense that sped up his development in a sense coming and learning the system, you know, getting used to college cover recognition, you are not just going to blow past people; you going to have coverage recognition; yo going to know who you blocking in the run scheme and different from high school.” Milroe further explained that he’s so impressed with Ryan taking it all in a short period. According to him, to do what Ryan has done requires a lot of mental toughness and Ryan has it. That’s what makes him stand apart from any other great receiver.

Jalen Milroe can’t help but admire the transformation he’s witnessed in Ryan Williams—a kid who’s gone from being a 17-year-old high school hopeful to a college standout in record time. For Milroe, it’s not just about talent; it’s Williams’ relentless dedication that sets him apart. “He’s so detail-oriented,” Milroe says, recalling a moment that left an impression on him.
Milroe vividly remembers the day Ryan walked into the training room and approached head trainer Jeff Allen with an ambitious request: he wanted to follow Devonta Smith’s training regimen. For a teenager fresh out of high school, asking for the same routine as one of Alabama’s greatest receivers shows a level of seriousness that’s rare. “I never expected that from someone his age,” Milroe admits, impressed by Williams’ maturity and laser-focused work ethic.
And that’s not all. Williams once approached Milroe asking to review his football film—another move that proves his hunger to learn and improve. While most 17-year-olds might be overwhelmed by the transition to college ball, Ryan is always the first to practice, eager to train, and constantly striving to elevate his game. “These are the things that make him different from the boys his age,” Milroe adds.
