Is Dylan Raiola the next Patrick Mahomes, or is it too soon to make that call?

Freshman QB Dylan Raiola and Nebraska head coach Matt Rhule have forged a close relationship marked by respect for one another and similar goals. Both have the ambition to make the team a playoff contender this year. Besides this, Raiola’s distinctive playing style and competitive temperament have drawn comparisons to NFL sensation Patrick Mahomes. And Rhule can’t help but frequently laud his mini-Mahomes’ work ethic. Following the victory over Rutgers, Dylan Raiola was praised by Matt Rhule as “I think he’s been great.” However, Raiola’s performance on Saturday was by no means his best of the year, but it was enough to secure a victory. But there is more to brighten your day as the quarterback came with a hilarious story thereafter.

A video titled, “Dylan Raiola explains how he woke up Coach Rhule in his office🤣 #GBR“, was shared on 247Huskers’ X account on October 16. Well, oversleeping appears to have been very expensive for the coach. According to the footage, Rhule was awakened from his slumber last week when Dylan Raiola tapped on his office door.

When Raiola was questioned about this strange incident during an interview, he said, “I think he slept in a little later than he. I can’t even recall. I enter here without looking at the clocks; I just stroll in.” Subsequently, Raiola stated, “Actually, I hit his head. He slept by the door, and I knocked and I opened the door, and I, like, hit something, and he was on the ground, so I was like, oh, I just knocked his head,” said the Huskers QB.

However, Matt Rhule isn’t one to stress too much. Even after his quarterback playfully bumped his head, the coach took it in stride, turning the moment into something fun—showing that this QB-HC duo is one to keep an eye on. Well, so much so that, despite the team’s win, though, Rhule still has some good advice for his QB, especially after his performance against Rutgers, hinting there’s room for improvement in his style of play.

Is Dylan Raiola the next Patrick Mahomes, or is it too soon to make that call?

Have an interesting take?

Last week, the team got a victory over Rutgers, but Dylan Raiola’s subpar play was clearly noticeable during the game. Raiola’s performance still has space for development, according to Huskers head coach Matt Rhule.”I think Dylan’s the guy that the guys on offense look to so we can continue to help him with the improved run game, guys getting open. I think he’ll get better and better and better every week back to the run game,” Rhule said in the post-game conference.

Raiola’s error in the team’s last two games could be a big problem. In the last game against Illinois, Dylan Raiola ultimately threw the ball to Illinois cornerback Torrie Cox Jr. instead of wide receiver Isaiah Neyor, who was targeted for a touchdown. This was comparable to what transpired against Rutgers when he passed the ball directly into the hands of Scarlet Knights’ defensive back, Flip Dixon, rather than passing it to his teammates. Despite only having three interceptions in six games and 1,358 throwing yards with nine touchdowns, Raiola may be the greatest true freshman quarterback in the country because of his leadership.

As per the head coach, when Nebraska enters the field again in Week 8 against the unbeaten Indiana Hoosiers, Dylan Raiola’s leadership will be crucial. Now the question stands; will Raiola be able to prove Matt’s belief in him?
