Georgia Tech has been having a whirlwind ride throughout the season so far. The Yellow Jackets couldn’t open the season on a high note, receiving a 24-21 blow from Florida State. In no time, they passed the upset to Georgia State at the home ground mounting a 35-12 victory, leading the team to a decent 2-0 before the kickoff. However, heading to their first true road game, Georgia Tech had to drop their ego again against Syracuse. Despite the loss being a pretty close margin, it was a much-needed hiccup that propelled them to bounce back with another dominant win over the VMI of the FCS. Although the players have their tails up, the upcoming battle with No. 19 Louisville is shaping up to be a tough nut to crack.

Louisville is likely to put Georgia HC Brent Key’s tunnel vision on the test big time on Saturday, September 21st. The Cardinals were in a bye last week, after cooking Austin Prey and Jacksonville State with ease in the first two weeks. So, the Cardinals will certainly look to capitalize on their momentum with another spectacular win against a team that has already got their caliber checked through four games in the season. While the first ACC challenge is certainly not going to be very hard for Jeff Brohm, the cupcake games era is over. Also, getting an edge over the Yellow Jackets will add value to their initial high-yield wins. This could lead critics to believe those weren’t lucky breaks at all. However, the biggest deciding factor of the game will still be Georgia Tech’s defense vs Louisville’s passing game.
Brent Key should look to elevate their defense game to secure a sure-shot win against the Cardinals
Georgia Tech’s team showcased a pretty weak defense through the previous weeks. From what was evident from the match against Syracuse, the Yellow Jackets tend to mess up whenever they face any strong passing team. Although they could manage the VMI team, it can only be a feel-good factor. Their breakdown against Syracuse, who put on a tougher test, was a big wake-up call for Brent Key, a 5-0 record holder against ranked ACC teams. The Tech’s defensive line was noticeably weak. Even plenty of good throws from QB Kyle McCord couldn’t hide the loopholes in week 2.

To be fair, one point in Key’s favor, however, might be the fact that Syracuse had a harder passing record than the Cardinals. Another argument is they have history on their side and are also pretty sharp at taking up a challenge when it comes to the four-power opponents as seen in this season so far.
What’s your take? Will Key throw another upset to the ACC-ranked team on Saturday or will the Cardinals keep proving their mettle? Let us know in the comments.
