It turns out that being retired is a really nice job. In addition to being relieved of the daily rigors of coaching a collegiate football team that consistently hopes to win a championship, Nick Saban is also earning a respectable salary in the process. Saban isn’t just sitting at home, though; he continues to work as an advisor at Alabama and is a regular analyst on ESPN’s “College GameDay,” where his cool-headedness provides the ideal counterpoint to Pat McAfee’s aggressive style. The former Alabama coach currently holds two jobs, so what is the pay rate of Saban?

The precise compensation that Nick Saban receives for his work as a commentator on ESPN’s College GameDay has not been made public. He is reportedly receiving multi-million dollar earnings, though, as is customary for high-profile hiring in sports media. Although the exact terms of Saban’s ESPN deal are still unknown, his participation on College GameDay is anticipated to be profitable. The story has more twists to reveal. Despite his inability to win a national title in January, Saban is still receiving a respectable salary from Alabama.

According to AL.com, Saban earns $500,000 a year in his new consultant position at Alabama, with checks totaling over $41,000 per month. What makes $500,000 a larger pay for Saban, then? Well, that amount has increased significantly since 2023, when Saban’s base compensation was $300,000. On the other hand, Saban’s most recent deal with Alabama was mostly dependent on talent fees, incentives, and bonuses.

When combined, they increased Saban’s 2023 actual salary to an incredible $11.1 million. Moreover, Nick Saban is among the highest-paid CFB coaches, according to the most recent figures. With an estimated yearly salary of $11.4 million in 2023, he ranked third among college football coaches in terms of compensation, behind Kirby Smart and Dabo Swinney. But there’s still a question about Saban’s appearance with Pat on College GameDay.

Nick Saban as an analyst

McAfee and Saban are seen as complementary forces, each balancing the other. However, Saban hasn’t been as successful at selecting games as he was at prevailing them until now. Saban’s record on “College GameDay” since week one of the 2024 campaign is 22-18. He has improved recently, going 9-3 in his third week and 5-5 in the following week after getting 4-5 with choices in his initial two games of the season.

His granddaughter, according to Saban, advised him to start selecting the side he initially believed would lose, which could be the cause of that increase. Some of his bad decisions have been reasonable, either because he picked a big favorite, like Virginia Tech to defeat Vanderbilt, or because he had an emotional attachment, like when he selected his home state, West Virginia, to defeat a top-10 Penn State squad.

Conversely, he has a 1-0 record when picking Alabama games; in a game that Kalen DeBoer’s squad won 42-10, he picked the Tide to defeat Wisconsin. While the hopes are this gifted analyst continues to work his magic in the future, what’s your take on Saban’s appearance with Pat on College GameDay? Share below.
