Deion Sanders just brought out the proud dad vibes in Bill Goldberg. These two have been buddies for ages, playing defense for the Atlanta Falcons back in the day. Even though their careers took different turns, their friendship has stayed strong.
We can see that as the WWE legend even enrolled his son, Gage, in the CU Buffs program this year. The young linebacker is now soaking up Deion’s coaching like a sponge, and his dad couldn’t be more proud.
On August 16, during Thee Pregame Show, Uncle Neely asked Bill Goldberg about Gage’s progress with the Buffs. Gage had already participated in spring practice and is now back for fall. And Goldberg couldn’t help but notice the difference. ‘Oh my God. The difference in just my son alone is unbelievable. He is bigger, stronger, faster, and he’s taken direction like he has never taken before,'” he said.

Goldberg also proudly noted how his son is starting to “get out of his shell a little bit and, you know, get to the front of the line.” Watching Gage practice, he couldn’t hide his excitement about the progress. The WWE icon mentioned how Gage, who would usually come over to say “Hello,” is now fully focused on his work. “The young man knows what he’s got to do and he’s out there doing work,” Goldberg said, crediting Coach Prime & Co. for the transformation. “Not only does he have great coaches; he has great fathers. They go from top to bottom and the reality is somebody could drop at any moment. You have to make sure everyone is ready.”

Gage Goldberg chooses Deion Sanders
Deion Sanders made a powerful addition to his team this year with Gage Goldberg, a 6-foot, 215-pound linebacker. Gage initially considered joining Nick Saban’s Alabama squad. But after Saban retired, he decided to go with Deion’s football program at Colorado.

It seems the decision wasn’t just about his dad’s connection — Gage genuinely likes the vibe there. “I just wanted to go somewhere that I’m going to absorb everything that I’m taught and like the coaching staff at Colorado — all the NFL experience they have, it’s crazy,” Gage said. He’s fully committed to being a Buff, even raving about the weight coaches and facilities. That might explain why Gage looks “bigger and stronger” during practice. But he’s also smart enough to have backup plans if football doesn’t work out.
In a podcast last month, Gage shared his two alternatives: “Football’s priority right now, but if that doesn’t work, I’m majoring in real estate at Colorado. So we’re gonna try to do real estate, and then if all else fails, Goldberg Jr. wrestling.” Gage might give wrestling a shot like his dad if football doesn’t pan out. But with Deion’s fresh energy to the Buffs, it looks like Gage is here to stay. Let’s see if a winning season keeps him on this path!
