Is Deion Sanders' greatest legacy on the field or in his role as a father?

From rags to riches and yet, the values and the mentality remain the same. This is seemingly the mantra that the renowned Coach Prime lives by, as described by his sons in a recent interview. The name of Deion ‘Prime Time’ Sanders used to be a household name back during his NFL days with the Atlanta Falcons and now, decades later, he’s still popular with a different alias, ‘Coach Prime.’ Deion has been an inspiration to a generation of future football prospects and yet, within all the fame and glory that surrounds him, he’s just a simple man with simple tastes. Outside of the gridiron, he’s not just a beacon of inspiration to football players, but also to fathers to look up to since he keeps setting the bar of exceptional parenting at the length of a skyscraper.

On the 17th September episode of the ‘Outta Pocket’ show hosted by Robert Griffith III and his wife, Grete Griffin, the Sanders brothers- Shilo and Shedeur came on to talk about all things related to the ongoing college football season. In one segment, Robert posed the brothers with a question of how they think their father inspires people, to which Shedeur had a modest answer.

As per the Colorado quarterback, Deion is able to inspire the people due to the simplistic values he upholds, which is something that the people can relate to. He was heard saying, “He’s able to more relate to, I’ll say other black fathers and stuff like that, that could really see what he’s doing and be like yeah, he’s the same way. He didn’t change no matter what. If we go out to eat, it’s like $200, $300. He like, “We ain’t eating here no more.” So, I barely eat with him anymore. It’s just somebody that they’re able to look at and see and understand like, “Hey, we’re going through this.” As such, Shedeur believes that despite Deion’s $45 million net worth, he hasn’t let money change him at all, making him an icon to the common masses as more than a football player. Prior to Shedeur’s response, Shilo chimed in with his own opinion on what makes his dad so special and it’s an answer that is nothing but endearing.

Shilo Sanders appreciates Deion’s sheer commitment to being a father

Despite the challenges Deion has faced in his personal life, from losing 3 long-term partners to fighting a lawsuit against his ex-wife, his children have always been at the top of his priority list. Additionally, Deion’s words of wisdom mainly empower the youth to target the betterment of the family as the ultimate goal of their lives, and it looks like he’s abided by it himself all his life. An ever-present father is a privilege that not everyone’s entitled to and as such, Shilo made sure he counted his blessings in terms of having Deion as the towering male figure in his life.

Shilo referenced the imaginative scenarios that the world of films and shows portray about what a perfect family looks like and said, “When you see more of it, just growing up, watching them TV shows that have full families in it, it just looks good. That’s how it’s really supposed to be. So just him being a good father and just being there, it really just gives you something else to see like that.” Thus, Deion Sanders might not have had the most success on the football field, but he’s surely won all the trophies at being a father, since his sons are more than grateful to have him in their lives.
