Is Quinn Ewers the real deal, or just another overhyped college football star?

The Heisman Trophy race is heating up, and some new faces are starting to make a serious impact. The contenders, who were considered top prospects at the start of the season like Travis Hunter from Colorado, have been knocked off the list. Brandon Walker wrote his five probable Heisman winners on X and this created a lot of debate in the college football circle. Newcomers such as Ashton Jeanty of Boise State or Quinn Ewers, Texas belong to the contenders for the most prestigious individual award in college football.

Moreover, Jeanty at the top of the list may seem odd to some, but Boise State has been tearing it up, running up insane numbers. These exceptional performances have, therefore, thrust him over the others. On the other hand, Quinn Ewers is performing exceptionally for the Texas team, contributing to the outstanding season ranking among the best quarterbacks nationally. Other players that are being considered as favorites include Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart, Tennessee’s Nico Iamaleava, and Miami’s Cam Ward.

What has proved most intriguing, though, is that Travis Hunter, the hype that was so big, with zero TDs, has faded away. The Colorado star was initially one of the early favorites to win the Heisman, but his output has not been in line with other hopefuls. The Heisman Award, however, is not about the star player, but a winner who consistently dominates, and at the moment, there are other players who have emerged and given better performances than Hunter.

New faces stealing the spotlight: Who might seize the Heisman trophy?

Ashton Jeanty’s return to the top of the Heisman contenders list is perhaps one of the most intriguing narratives in the season. Boise State’s running back has been electrifying the field, as he uses his speed and balance, as well as his strength to defy almost all the defenders. Jeanty is still young, but he has scored tremendous records which put him among the most competent players of college football today. With a 459-yard throw and 9 TDs, it is very little common to have a player who played for Boise State performing like Jeanty.

This year’s newcomer to the name on the Heisman watchlists is Quinn Ewers. As the leader of Texas’s offense, Ewers has shown his ability to make game-changing plays and victories, making him one of the best QBs this year. His commanding arm, his decision-making ability, and his capacity to be a leader have helped Texas this year. With throws for 506 yards and 6 TDs, Ewers has an opportunity to return the Longhorns to the national stage, and a Heisman could be the cherry on top of the cake for the history of Texas football.

Ole Miss’s Jaxson Dart is another quarterback who is also putting up quite a good fight to be the top pick, with his legs making him one of the most prolific quarterbacks of the current generation. With throws for over 795 tards and 6 tremendous TDs, he is able to keep his head cool when the situation is hot and lead his team, something that Heisman voters seek in their candidates.
