Alright, college football fans, the most famous statue in sports is up for grabs, and this year’s race is wildly different. For the first time in decades, the Heisman isn’t just about quarterbacks—it’s a showdown where RBs and WRs are stealing the spotlight. The 2024 Heisman race has become one of the spiciest debates of the season, and everyone’s weighing in on their favorite.
The top contenders? Boise State’s electrifying RB Ashton Jeanty and Colorado’s unstoppable two-way star Travis Hunter. But let’s not count out seasoned QBs Dillon Gabriel from Oregon and Cam Ward from Miami, who are still in the mix. Add to that the iconic 90th anniversary celebration happening Saturday night at Lincoln Center in New York City, and you’ve got yourself a Heisman race for the ages.
Earlier this week, Bleacher Report shared a snapshot of the nominees on Instagram, captioning it simply, “Who you got? 🏆” The finalists posed alongside the iconic Heisman Trophy after taking photos under the bright lights of Times Square. Decked out in outfits that screamed ‘class meets swag,’ the players brought their A-game—except Jeanty’s look took the conversation to another level.

While Hunter kept it sharp in all-black and the QBs opted for sleek beige ensembles, Jeanty pulled off an orange-and-blue fit that proudly repped his Boise State program. Fans took notice, and one even commented, “Look at Jeanty, man. Inspirational fit.” The suit wasn’t just fashion—it was a statement, a nod to his roots, proving you don’t need flash to make a big impact.

With the Heisman set to be awarded to college football’s best player since 1935, this year’s race is breaking traditions and turning heads. But here’s the kicker: none of this year’s nominees hail from the SEC. Yep, the conference that’s delivered four of the last five Heisman winners (including two from Alabama and LSU) is taking a backseat this time around. Crazy, right?
Not just that, despite a few unexpected performances, no quarterback has emerged as a top contender this season. Although they could be finalists, Gabriel and Ward are not currently anticipated to contend for the top slot. It appears to be Jeanty vs. Travis. However, on Friday, the top 4 were in New York, being interviewed and enjoying the Heisman festivities while the votes were being counted. To celebrate their accomplishment, they received personalized, commemorative timepieces. However, CFB fans are awestruck by Jeanty’s bold act.

Heisman buzz for Ashton Jeanty
Jeanty is the first running back invited to the Heisman party since 2017. And now his straightforward outfit, a nod to Boise State, highlights his dedication to the program. Not only this, it also symbolizes that the star RB promotes his school, and following this, a fan commented, “Jeanty repping his school. Give em the award already.” Another fan wrote, “Bro pulled up reppin too, said he not playing w em.”
To refresh your memory, the Jacksonville junior was awarded the best RB by the Doak Walker Award and the best CFB player by the Maxwell Award. In addition, Jeanty’s stats are off the charts! 5 TD runs of 70+ yards, and he’s already surpassed the combined rushing yards of 115 FBS teams. He needs to beat the FBS record by 132 yards, which was achieved by Barry Sanders. Given his record and current casual appearance, many were left thinking, ‘Is he the one?’ One fan wrote, “Jeanty in his warm up gear ready to play 😂😂.” According to another admirer, “Jeanty pulled up ready to play.”

Jeanty, however, led Boise State (12-1) to a Mountain West Conference title, earning the Broncos the 3rd seed in the CFB Playoffs this year. As of now, we should be celebrating him, not nitpicking his outfit. One admirer took note of this and said, “Ashton putting on for his school, can’t be mad at bro.” Very sensible!
We will now have to wait a few more hours to find out who will receive the 2024 Heisman Trophy. As of now, it appears that Travis and Ashton will both prevail. But hey, there can only be one champion, right?
