Can Travis Hunter's dual-threat magic dethrone the quarterback reign in the Heisman race?

Okay, so the Heisman. The 2024 season has been a wild ride. We have seen underdogs rise out of nowhere and we have seen mammoths like Bama fall midseason. But right now, arguably the most important discussion is, “Who is taking the Heisman?”. See, quarterbacks have maintained their domination on that trophy for years, but this time, things are going to change. The Buffs are on a 6-2 run, and Deion Sanders‘ golden child, Travis Hunter, is the talk of the town. This dude is playing both sides of the snaps effortlessly, and he is breaking records. So, you would think that Hunter would get the easy ticket to the first position right?

No. As much as fans love Hunter for his moves as a CB and WR, there is another guy who is still consistently charting. The Hurricanes have been on one of the wildest rides this season. 9 back to back wins with an average of 40 points scored in almost every game. Do you know who made this possible? QB Cam Ward. In 9 games, Ward has managed to cover 3146 yards with 29 touchdowns under his belt. Dude has managed to reach a QBR of 91.7 already. So it ain’t no wonder why Ward’s Heisman odds have not stopped rising since Week 1. Now, back on Instagram, YahooSports shared the latest Heisman odds graphic. “Can Cam Ward hold off Travis Hunter for the Heisman?” was the caption YahooSports wrote. In the clip, both Ward and Hunter are sitting at +200 odds in Week 10.

See, we cannot compare Hunter and Ward on the same scale. Back when the Buffs hit the Rocky Mountain Showdown, Hunter managed to break a 26-year-old record. This guy, on the offense, managed to grab 2 touchdowns with 100 yards. And as a CB, he brought in 13 catches along with an amazing defensive interception where he ran up the ball by 38 yards.

Yes, the Kansas State injury did derail the momentum, but Travis came back strong against the Bearcats and managed to cast the same old Hunter magic. And if we talk about Ward, this guy has managed to bring back Miami from the brink of defeat. The California game is the perfect example. With barely 26 seconds left on the clock, Ward launched a 5-yard pass to Elijah Arroyo which pushed the Hurricanes to a 39-38 win over the Bears.

In short, both of these guys have done game-changing stuff for their teams. Ward has managed to bring Miami back and Hunter has done the same against Baylor in overtime with his game-winning fumble. This year’s run is going to be wild and we cannot wait to see who picks up the Heisman Cup. Will it be HE12MAN or HE1SMAN? or could it be HEI2MAN?

Have an interesting take?

RB domination from Boise State

See, we know for a fact that the QB run in Heisman is going to be shattered. But Hunter ain’t the only one who is targeting that. Boise State has been a surprise underdog this season. With a 7-1 run, the dude who has kept this ship afloat is RB Ashton Jeanty. This guy is a monster compared to all the other RBs who have managed to win the Heisman.

CBS Sports shared a stat list on their Instagram where it was clear that Jeanty is in a different league. On average, he has had double the rushing yards as compared to any other past Heisman RBs on the list. His overall YDS/RUSH is also almost double. Dude is comfortably sitting on the +450 spot and he could be the surprise tackle that could sack Ward or cause a turnover for Hunter.
