If anyone is having it worse than Deion Sanders and Kalen DeBoer, then it’s Cam Rising. Taking the Utes to a Pac-12 championship and a Rose Bowl appearance, Cam Rising was the rising star for the team. But tragedy struck in 2023 when Rising was out of the entire season. And if that wasn’t bad enough, with the 2024 season, Rising once again was counted out right after the Utes vs Baylor game in Week 2 (hand injury).

And no, the bad luck doesn’t stop there. After missing out on 3 games (hand injury), Rising started during the Arizona State game. That did not end well, with him getting escorted out of the field because of a lower leg injury. And this brings us to the latest news. CBS Sports took to their official Instagram account to share an update from Matt Zenitz. “Utah QB Cam Rising could be eligible for a medical redshirt and an 8th CFB season if he doesn’t play again this season,” Zenitz had pointed out.

Just a few hours back, Utah HC Kyle Whittingham had noted that Rising would be out of the season “indefinitely” because of his lower leg injury against Arizona State. “I can’t give you a timeline. It could be the rest of the season,” Whittingham had mentioned. With the star QB out of the show, Isaac Wilson will be taking over the duties of the starting quarterback.

Cam Rising’s relationship with on-field injuries is like your relationship with that one toxic ex who keeps coming back every year to ruin your life. The entire legacy started in 2020 when he suffered a shoulder injury while playing against the Trojans.

And during the 2021 Rose Bowl, he was out because of a concussion. In 2022, again, Rising had a major knee injury (ACL, MCL, MPFL, and meniscus). At this point, you have to feel bad for this dude. He was the IT factor for Utes and how he just feels like a burden to the entire team. The fans definitely agree on this part.

You’re too old

What’s your perspective on:

Is Cam Rising's college career a tale of perseverance or a sign to finally hang up the cleats?

Have an interesting take?

“Retire!! too injury prone anyway,” was the first thing a fan pointed out under the Instagram post. They ain’t wrong. If the issues are this severe, then Rising should just take an off and call it quits. Following this, another fan pointed out, “Please just stop. Go use that 7 years of college, be a great doctor, and let Utah move on.” This is a pretty good suggestion. Keep in mind that Rising’s injuries have affected not only the team but also his credibility as a player.

Going from a $622,000 NIL valuation at the start of the season to a $496,000 ain’t a joke. Another fan was much more compassionate regarding the entire scene. “I feel bad, and seemingly… he needs to retired. Injuries adding up and he needs to make sure he leaves with a PhD,” they pointed out. The best Rising can do is grab a degree and get out. At this point, even his NFL future feels bleak at best.

Finally, 2 fans had somewhat the same reaction. “Why? Let other people play man,” was what the first one pointed out. Following this, another said, “Time to move on, homie.” Being 25 right now, Rising needs to put a stopper on this. At this point, it just feels like he is milking his college career. But if he continues to do this, god knows what fate awaits him.
