It’s always a bit insensitive when the weak moments of players and coaches are mocked out in the open for everyone to see. This is what occurred when Gus Johnson unknowingly invoked the name of Steve Sarkisian’s wife on national television, while the couple is undergoing their unfortunate divorce. Fortunately, Joel Klatt interrupted him just in time not to let the bit go on for any longer. But, the damage had been done, and the media caught the wave.

The divorce between Steve Sarkisian and soon-to-be ex-wife Loreal isn’t on bad terms. In fact, she was spotted supporting the Longhorns against the CSU Rams as well. But openly being unaware of the ongoing split was a poor look on Johnson’s part. He is now being repaid in kind by the angry reactions of the fans.

Gus Johnson remarked on Sarkisian’s outfit before the game and how his “wife” must have dressed him, to which, Joel Klatt instantly interrupted him to halt the joke then and there. It seems like Johnson didn’t receive the memo about Sarkisian’s divorce and now will pay the price for it due to the heated reactions of the fans.

According to the Athlon, Johnson’s exact words were, “Did you see Steve Sarkisian walk into the stadium today,” Gus Johnson asked Joel Klatt. “He was clean! His wife Loreal put him together.” To which, one user responded by writing, “Gus Johnson talking about Steve Sarkisian’s wife despite him being in the middle of a divorce was very funny.” These feelings weren’t reciprocated by most of the other users who thought that the joke was a bit too sensitive in regard to Sarkisian’s situation. Yet, that’s not all. There were many more people who called out Johnson for his mistake and some of them have been compiled below.

The fans react to Johnson’s on-air ‘error’

Johnson’s little joke about the couple didn’t sit too well with the Texas fans. Even though Sarkisian himself has to address the situation, it is obvious that the commentator is under heavy fire. One user talked about how it might be an honest mistake on Johnson’s part. However, the situation was altogether a bit alarming. The comment read, “I don’t expect Gus Johnson to stay on top of Steve Sarkisian’s marriage news, but yikes!”

Next, this fan wasted no time in calling Johnson an “idiot” for his mistake. “This idiot Gus Johnson is bringing up Steve’s wife and they literally just got Divorced 🤡” Another user pointed out the comedy of it all. “Gus Johnson mentioning Steve Sark’s freshly divorced ex wife as his stylist is definitely something😂”

Lastly, Klatt’s timing was highlighted by this user, who talked about the incident in his comment. “He didn’t do his homework on that one Klatt had to be tapping his leg telling him to stop.” Thus, Johnson is in a pickle, undoubtedly. But as far as controversies are considered, this one might not make it to the front page.
