Georgia Bulldogs quarterback Carson Beck is facing criticism after a poor performance against Alabama, where he threw 4 turnovers; the pressure will be on Beck for the big game against Auburn. With all the fans doubting his tactful skills necessary to lead the team, Beck’s position as a starter has become rather vague.

Greg McElroy has discussed on ESPN College Football a number of the issues Beck has had to struggle with and the flaws he has to work on, including lack of reliability in certain situations. “Life on that side of the ball has been challenging for a long time,” McElroy said during the post-analysis of Georgia’s recent games. The pressure is on during the Ohio State game because they are in a position to capitalize on the weakness of Beck’s playing style.

An Iowa fan would probably not feel confident if all the pressure of the game is on Cade McNamara. This lays the foundation for an important debate about Beck’s strengths and weaknesses especially where his results influence overall team motivation as well as accomplishment.

Beck’s performance has caused fans from Georgia to feel frustrated. They’ve seen flashes of his greatness, but mistakes like fumbles against Alabama are a new norm. McElroy pointed out that Beck was good statistically last week, however, four turnovers are very problematic. “What is going on with Carson Beck?” he says.

The upcoming game this weekend against Auburn will be a challenge to Beck. The Bulldogs themselves are now the 24-point favorites, and those margins count for little if Beck cannot come through. The game kicks off at 3 Eastern Time on ABC channel.

The bigger picture: the future of Georgia football

McElroy, who once praised Beck as “the most gifted thrower in college football at the moment, has moved to discuss the problematic nature of the high turnovers that surfaced in Week 5. “Recency bias now, maybe the worst game of his career, as far as seeing the field, came just a couple of weeks ago against Kentucky,” To this, he said, again pointing at the need for Beck to come back strongly.

Even as the focus is verified in Beck, it signals a deeper problem with Georgia football. The Bulldogs are struggling to be consistent on the field, and that problem is not limited only to QBs. The offense has to effectively come together, especially because things begin to heat up at this stage. Of all those qualified FBS quarterbacks, only 44% complete their passes, and with a current record of 1119 passing yards, 10 touchdowns, and three interceptions, Beck has to tinker a ways to go, especially on the third down. “They also need to be better on third downs, which starts with Carson Beck,” McElroy stated.

And as the season goes on, these questions regarding Beck will just continue to rise, surfacing more and more. Viewers would like to watch a quarterback who can shave the moment and help the Bulldogs clinch the game. The face-off against Auburn is not just a game and it’s a turning point for Beck and his football journey in Georgia. If he can pull himself up from Frank and take the Bulldogs to an emphatic win, this could be what he needs to turn around his form. But if he underperforms again, then things get seriously discussed about his future position.
