Ever wonder why Greg McElroy seems so hyped about SEC teams on ESPN college football? It’s like every Saturday, Alabama crimson Roll Tide, Georgia Bulldogs, Arch Manning, and the Longhorns or LSU get front-row seats to the show, while Big 10 squads barely get a mention. So, is there some favoritism going on, or are we just making a big deal out of nothing in their YouTube comment section? McElroy’s recent response had fans fuming, and trust me, it’s worth a listen logically.
When fans in the comment section accused former Alabama quarterback Greg McElroy and ESPN on their podcast for giving too much love to SEC teams like Texas Longhorns, Texas A&M Aggies, or the Bulldogs, he didn’t even try to dodge the heat, as your favorite artist does. Instead, he took it head-on. “Do we have bias in the show? Yes, we absolutely have bias in the show.” Did he just admit that on the ESPN College Football Podcast?? The guts of that man. Then he proceeded with the following lines: “You know where that bias lies? With the top teams in the country, and I don’t really care what conference they’re from, if you want me to be completely honest.” Said it with a menaced look on his face.

Now, that’s not the typical type of the answers critics expected. They were hoping McElroy would overlook these questions, or maybe they were hoping for an apology or at least some awkward justification or backpedaling. But McElroy doubled down, made it clear, insisting that the show’s focus is on quality. “When the Big 10 has the game of the weekend…. last weekend we start with the Big 10 Penn State Ohio State were our big takeaways from last week Oregon and Ohio State a few weeks ago were our big takeaways.” That’s one way to defend his coverage choice.
Greg McElroy Showing Love to the Big Ten
Sure, it may feel like the SEC gets all the love, with all the drama and tension going on with that division. But McElroy was quick to point out that the show does not ghost Big 10. He mentioned key matchups that got top billing on ESPN, like Week 10 of the SEC football Ohio State Buckeyes vs Penn State Nattylions. “We follow the quality and when you have a good game amongst big-time opponents and there’s an outcome or a significant takeaway that’s the direction we head” McElroy put up the strong case. If Big Ten delivers a must-watch action, they’ll get their flowers. He even brought up that banger matchup between Ohio State vs Oregon game from Week 6 to back it up with his words.

Is Greg McElroy's SEC bias justified, or should Big Ten fans demand equal spotlight on ESPN?
Have an interesting take?
Yet, there’s no denying that SEC games seem to bring a different level of excitement and vibes. The regular season’s about to end. The tension is building. With all that competition in the conference, no team in the SEC locked their playoff spot. Everybody’s on each other’s throats for the playoff spot. But Big Ten fans have a valid gripe: they want the same level of attention for their legendary rivalries. Who can blame them when Indiana, Ohio State, and Oregon State are all playoff contenders?
So, does ESPN have bias or agenda? McElroy didn’t exactly say no. But his message was loud and clear. The show simply focuses on the top dog’s matchups wherever they are. And with college football’s playoff picture getting closer and closer, the spotlight will be shifting here and there. For now, SEC and Big 10 can agree on one thing: as long as your team keeps winning, against the same caliber, the hype will follow. But if you want the biggest headlines? then bring the heat, anyway that’s what Greg McElroy and his ESPN crew are looking for!
