Surrounded by a wave of controversy after the SEC Media Days’ press conference, Deion Sanders’ team keeps drawing more and more fire in his wake. The fans and the community still have a sour taste in their mouths over how Coach Prime chose to treat reporters during his latest press conference and as a result, it probably wasn’t a good idea for Zack Owens to come out and praise Deion during such a sensitive time.
Zack Owens, the former offensive lineman for the Clemson Tigers, entered the transfer portal in April and later chose the Colorado Buffaloes as his pick for the 2024 season. During his redshirt season, Owens appeared in just 2 games with 13 offensive snaps. With such an underwhelming performance for Clemenson, he’s chosen Colorado as the place to mark the next part of his career. Still, he’s not being extended a warm welcome from the fans since he is currently aboard the Deion-praise train, which is practically empty at the moment.

During an episode of the DNVR CU Buffs podcast that was released in June, Zack Owens spoke in length about his transition from Clemenson to Colorado and how it was mostly about the fact that they already “had their foundation.” All in all, he wanted to create history with a team rather than be just another chapter in it, which is what the Clemenson Tigers meant to him supposedly. The lineman emphasized Clemenson’s pre-determined history and said, “I wanted to be a part of a program that OK, so now he’s one of the guys we look back and remember. At Clemson, that’s all they talked about was what they did in the past and how it helped us build up, which is something that we always respect.” He further added that he wanted to be a part of “building a program up to the point where we can make history.”
That’s a dumbass comment. Just say you got paid. We don’t care

A person commented under the post and alleged that Owens might’ve gotten paid by the Colorado management more than he was making with the Tigers, which is the major reason behind his transfer. Though there aren’t any official reports regarding Owens’ pay, it’s highly possible that a big-time popular program like the Buffs could have enough money to sway the youngster in their favor. While Owens was trying to be as diplomatic as possible with his reasons to leave, he struck the wrong cord with the fans who are openly calling him out for his peculiar thoughts.

Have an interesting take?
It’s one thing to transfer to a program in the hopes of getting more playing time, but justifying it by saying that Clemenson’s history is not worth his efforts or time, is an insult to the Tigers’ and all those who came before him. Moreover, college football fans aren’t really known for their mercy when it comes to dragging players through the mud and that’s exactly what occurred with Owens.

A Tigers’ fan took to the comments and mocked Owens for not trying to build his own legacy and wrote, “Wants to be a part of a legacy that’s never gonna be lol you build your own legacy and history it isn’t fully built by who comes before you, you have to continue it”
Next, this user basically called out Owens for not being good enough to play at Clemenson and said, “Turns out he just wasn’t good enough to play at Clemson.”
Another Clemenson fan claimed that Owens can’t handle the heat and termed Colorado as a “garbage school” when he commented, “LMAO…Sounds scared of competition and thinks he has to go to a garbage school to make him seem more impressive.”

Lastly, this user summarized everyone’s agitated feelings towards Owens and left a 4-word comment to call him out. He wrote, “Kid is a moron”
This will be a crucial season for Owens to stand up to the mark and start his “legacy” with the Colorado Buffaloes or else all this backlash will prove to be right, which is definitely something that the youngster doesn’t want on his resume.
