Travis Hunter's humility is refreshing—Is this the mindset young athletes need today?

When Travis Hunter scored his first 41-yard touchdown of the season, his fiancée Leanna celebrated with an IG story saying, “That’s a touchdown for @db3_tip.” Little did Shedeur Sanders know that she had two more touchdowns from him to celebrate even more spectacular plays.

There is no denying that Travis Hunter was the star of Colorado’s season opener against North Dakota State. He scored three of the four TDs that Sanders passed to lock in a final 31-26 record. The final TD is what really blew the internet as Hunter made a fingertip grab on the football despite being tackled by the NDSU defender. This led to a 3-yard TD, giving the Buffs a double-digit lead over the Bisons. While most people who managed that feat would hold their heads high, Hunter is different.

In a new YouTube episode on BuffsNation Daily on August 29, Travis Hunter brushed off his incredible performance with humility. After the game, the two-way star attended the press conference to discuss his experience. Despite being the game star with three incredible TDs, he shrugged his shoulders and said, “I got no personal goals. I just want my team to go out and win every week.”

After Hunter’s incredible third TD, ESPN play-by-play commentator Roddy Jones called it a “glitch on EA Sports” leading to another reaction from NFL star JJ Watt. NBA legend LeBron James couldn’t hide his admiration as he also tweeted, “MAN TRAVIS HUNTER IS RIDICULOUS!!!!! WOW.” Despite these high praises, Hunter chose to remain grounded in his attitude. With Hunter’s humility and mindset, Colorado is in safe hands as long as luck and talent are in its favor. And Hunter isn’t letting the hype get to him and spoil him.

Travis Hunter’s personality shines on and off the field

Travis Hunter told ESPN, “Pretty often, people say I can’t be real, and it’s amazing what I do.” One of the possible reasons why Travis Hunter is so good at what he does is that he doesn’t allow distractions to occupy his time and interest. He said, I don’t like to party, I don’t like to go out… I literally wake up, go do my football stuff, get my recovery in and I’m back at home. Football, school, fishing and playing my video game. That’s it.”

The two-way star had awed many fans last season when he scored 572 on defense, 412 on offense, and 23 on special teams despite missing three games due to injury. Even QB Quinn Ewers, who appeared alongside him on the EA Sports CFB 25, said of him, “The plays he makes out there on the field, it’s not normal.” Thursday night’s game is already a great start to the season. We can only hope that no injuries will prevent the Buffs from fulfilling their goal of winning.
