Did Oklahoma's fans go too far, or was their early celebration justified after beating Alabama?

Brent Venables spoke too soon! Emotions hit extremely high inside Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium when Oklahoma beat No. 3 Alabama, wiping them off the playoff contender list. Kalen DeBoer and the Crimson Tide weren’t just defeated; they were crushed. They were lucky they didn’t go scoreless. But the way Oklahoma celebrated their victory came at the expense of the program. But it’s all good, as a beaming Sooners HC feels.

Happiness was written all over Brent Venables’ face when he addressed the early field storming. Oklahoma insider Josh Callaway posted a video of the 53-year-old HC on X on November 25 following the big win. Venables said, “You can’t blame them, they were just excited and premature but it was good. Good problem to have. Hopefully nobody gets fined, don’t take it out of my pocket.”

Not just once! Oklahoma was fined two times by the SEC today for their early fieldstorming at Saturday’s SEC clash. The Sooners were fined $100,000 as their fans entered the playing field after the huge victory. But the penalty was doubled to a total of $200,000 as the game got delayed because fans started pouring into the turf with 28 seconds remaining on the clock.

Fans didn’t even wait to let the Sooners finish their final game-ending play. They had to be shooed out before Oklahoma officially ended the game to resume the celebration. A 24-3 final score in favor of the Sooners couldn’t have been on anyone’s wildest guess. So yeah, we can’t blame their overenthusiasm following this success.

Brent Venables and Oklahoma exceed expectations

It may have taken a while for Oklahoma to get a breakthrough with them losing to SEC powerhouses like Tennessee, Texas, and Ole Miss. But one important SEC game against Alabama and the Sooners were able to deliver more than what’s ever expected of them. They delivered a 21-point deficit to one of the nation’s best CFB teams as underdogs! “Well, we finally got the results we wanted when we put it all together,” a proud Brent Venables began his postgame speech.

Have an interesting take?

In the last game, Oklahoma dominated the Crimson Tide all night long raking up 325 total yards. The defense pressured Alabama star QB Jalen Milroe who not only threw three interceptions but also suffered in the run game, rushing for under 10 yards on 15 carries. With the win, the Sooners are now 6-5, ranking at No. 13 in the SEC as they become bowl-eligible. But another tough night awaits them on November 30 when they travel to Baton Rouge to face Brian Kelly and LSU.
