Did Keon Sabb make the right call by choosing DeBoer over Moore? What would you have done?

Coming in hot from the Wolverines, Keon Sabb was probably one of the best recruitment Bama could’ve made going into the 2024 season. This guy had already managed to rack up around 28 tackles and 2 interceptions back in 2023 while playing for Michigan. The best part of his 2023 career was the interception he returned for a touchdown. While under Kalen DeBoer, the Tide had already reached its peak in terms of offensive capabilities, adding Sabb to the roster made sure the defensive line was on par with the offense as well.

But, did you ever wonder who pushed Sabb to switch from Sherrone Moore’s guidance to DeBoer’s? Well, on the latest episode of the New Wave Podcast, Keon Sabb explains how his father played a major role in him transferring over from Michigan. “My dad, mainly. He always guided me right from wrong. It was a smart move. I’m glad I made it,” Sabb mentioned. As DC Kane Wommack had mentioned before the season started, adding Sabb to the roster changed the entire dynamic of the team.

Sabb alongside veteran Malachi Moore was quite the force. Even Dalton Wasserman from Pro Football Network had pointed out that Sabb was someone Bama could “build their secondary around.” To say that adding Sabb paid off would be an understatement.

When DeBoer and his boys hit the turf against the long-standing rivals; the Bulldogs, Keon managed to pull in 3 solo tackles during the rivalry match. The entire defensive line was so tight that Georgia barely had any room for plays during the first half of the game. Overall Keon has managed to grab 11 solo tackles and 2 interceptions in all the 4 games (combined) he has played up until now.

However, giving all the credit to Sabb would be wrong. Yes, the Bama defense was top-notch and stood the test of time against a top offense like the Bulldogs. Still, if we don’t talk about the magic Kalen DeBoer has done with the offensive line of the Crimson Tide, then are we being fair?

Bow down to the King

Many thought that after Nick Saban retires, Bama won’t be the same anymore. Then comes Kalen DeBoer. While many were critical of his role as the new HC (which was quite understandable), DeBoer proved that he knows how to talk the talk and walk the walk.

Have an interesting take?

The Tide is standing on top of the charts right now. With back-to-back wins and wrapping up their Week 5 game with an explosive win over the Bulldogs, DeBoer has truly done some voodoo magic with the team’s offense. If we go back to the Georgia game itself, the team had a 21-0 lead in the first quarter. The offensive line dominated Kirby Smart and his defenses, and the Dawgs couldn’t do anything.

Credit where credit is due. Kirby Smart and his boys did manage to pick up the pace from the 3rd and 4th quarters. However, it just wasn’t enough to stop the Tide. WR Ryan Williams still gets the point of being the one to bring it home for DeBoer and Bama. With a touchdown at 2:18 minute, Williams sealed the deal for his team and DeBoer won his first rivalry game against the Bulldogs. Let us know what you think DeBoer and the new Tide can achieve next.
