The first round of the 2025 NFL Draft came and went without a single Sun Devil being selected, but it wasn’t a huge surprise. That’s because Cam Skattebo, Arizona State’s star RB, was the only name on most draft boards, with expectations he’d be drafted in the second or third round. But as the final pick of the 3rd round passed, not one team called his name. Although it’s a tough moment for Skattebo, the draft still holds plenty of opportunities ahead.

Well, the 2025 NFL Draft was light on the RB, with only a handful selected through the first 2 days. While stars like Omarion Hampton and Ashton Jeanty were picked Thursday night, just 3 more—Quinshon Judkins, TreVeyon Henderson, and RJ Harvey—heard their names called in the 2nd round. And the third round was even slimmer, with Iowa’s Kaleb Johnson being the only RB selected. Despite the hype around this year’s deep RB class, just 6 backs went off the board. It was a shock, especially for Cam Skattebo, who expected to be among the first names called. Now, he’ll have to wait for Saturday for the final draft.

Now, Giants GM Joe Schoen is facing mounting pressure as analysts push him to correct the Cam Skattebo oversight before it’s too late. On April 26th, Giants insider Dan Schneier highlighted Skattebo’s pivotal role in his team’s playoff run, outshining nearly every RB in the CFP, except for Ashton Jeanty. With over a dozen consecutive games of 100+ scrimmage yards, Skattebo’s highlight reel is impossible to ignore. While his height and pass protection might raise some questions, they shouldn’t overshadow his fit for early downs and red-zone situations. No way should a player of his caliber, with such consistent production, fall outside the top 100 picks in any draft.

Then Dan Schneier weighed in, saying if the Giants grab Cam Skattebo at pick 105, he’d be absolutely thrilled. With the Giants sitting at pick 102, Skattebo could very well be gone by the time their turn comes up. Still, if they make the move, it would be a huge win. He’s a dynamic talent, and at that spot, it would be a steal. Let’s see if the Giants make the call.

However, Cam Skattebo’s 2024 season at Arizona State was electric, firmly establishing him as one of CFB’s premier backs. With 1,711 rushing yards, 21 TDs, and 45 receptions for 605 yards, he shattered records and racked up over 2,500 all-purpose yards. Skattebo’s explosive play earned him a 5th-place finish in the Heisman vote and a spot on the 2024 All-Big 12 First Team. So, his power, vision, and versatility make him a prime candidate for the NFL, and he’s been projected as a top pick. The Giants, in need of a dynamic back, could find their perfect fit in Skattebo, adding a game-changer to their offense.

Honestly, the Giants are on the hunt for a dynamic backfield force—someone who can move the chains, punch it in at the goal line and break away for game-changing runs. As GM Joe Schoen put it, they need a playmaker who can deliver on early downs and light up the red zone. With Barkley gone, the urgency is real. And Cam Skattebo checks every box. But if New York passes, other teams are circling. So, his next stop could still be the perfect fit.

Who could be Cam Skattebo’s next landing spot?

New Bears HC Ben Johnson may love airing it out, but he knows the road to winning the NFC North runs through the trenches. Cold weather, tough yards, smash-mouth football; that’s where Cam Skattebo shines. His bruising, downhill style brings the edge Chicago’s offense desperately needs. However, with Caleb Williams set to lead the charge, adding Skattebo could take pressure off the rookie QB and give the Bears a true identity. Tough town, gritty runner—it just makes sense.

Although it’s tough to nitpick the Chiefs’ high-flying offense, toughness on the ground has been a real weakness. In 2024, they broke just 12 tackles—dead last in the league. When defenses dropped extra bodies into coverage, as Philly did in the Super Bowl, Kansas City had no counterpunch. They looked rattled. Enter Cam Skattebo. He’s a bulldozer built for ugly, grind-it-out football. Adding his physicality could give Patrick Mahomes the bruising back he needs to survive deep playoff runs.

Right now, the clock is ticking on Dak Prescott’s window, and the Cowboys’ run game isn’t doing him any favors. Losing Rico Dowdle hurt more than people think. Ezekiel Elliott just isn’t that guy anymore—the burst is gone, and the legs are heavy. Brian Schottenheimer, much like his father, believes in pounding the rock to open up the air attack. In the NFC East, it’s all about closing games on the road in brutal conditions. Cam Skattebo’s tough, relentless style feels tailor-made for Dallas’ blueprint.
