The Georgia Bulldogs lost a game against Alabama, after which everyone kind of just forgot their true potential. They reminded everyone they are still one of the top college football teams after a 30-15 victory over the No. 1 ranked Texas at Darell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium. After this, Kirby Smart said, “Nobody gave us a chance; your network doubted us. And then they tried to rob us with calls in this place. These guys are so resilient,” he said while talking with the media. However, after Georgia’s victory, a new star was born. We’re talking about Daylen Everette.
Remember a nail-biting moment from Georgia’s game on Saturday? Daylen Everette is receiving praise from all over the place after a sack-fumble for the Georgia Bulldogs. On the latest episode of ‘the Players’ Lounge, SEC defensive players of the week, Mykel Williams and Jalon Walker talk about Georgia’s commanding victory over Texas, highlighting Daylen Everette’s contributions.
“The back end came up big for us, man. How proud do those guys make you? Like Daylen, Daylen had a crazy game, I’m not going to lie. He started it off with that forced fumble, and then he came and caught a pick. I didn’t get to see any of the plays because I was in coverage. I’m sitting, I’m looking, I just hear… I’m looking around. I looked at you, I’m like, ‘You do that? And then I just see Daylen run out, and then I see the replay,” Williams said.

To that, Walker replied, “It was crazy; the pick was unreal. The way he was playing it, he was carrying one, and then he dropped on two. Do you know what it reminded me of? Travis Hunter, the TCU game. Yeah, it kind of reminded me of that. He knew, he knew. I was like, ‘Okay.'”

So these guys recalled a moment from Georgia’s win over Texas: after Carson Beck had the second interception, cornerback Daylen Everette came behind Texas QB Quinn Ewers’ blind side on third-and-6 from the Longhorns’ 27-yard line. Ewers got fumbled following Everette’s tackle, after which he possessed the pigskin back at the 13-yard line. That moment was historic for Georgia fans, but Jalon Walker compared Everette’s tackle to Colorado star Travis Hunter from one game from the 2023 season.
Is Daylen Everette the next Travis Hunter?
Flashback to the 2023 season: Colorado dual threat Travis Hunter, in his debut season, made waves. More precisely, it was from one of the games he played against the Horned Frogs. For that game, Hunter completed 11 receptions for 119 yards, and he also contributed with a tackle that resulted in an interception on the defensive side. So basically Everette’s play reminded him of Hunter’s last year’s performance.

Moving forward, in a recent media appearance, Everette was asked about where he thinks the secondary has improved and where it’s put to a test so far. He said, “Just being closer connection-wise, even off the field we always find a way to hang out with each other, like outside of the football field and facility. That’s one of the biggest things.” He said, highlighting their game.
