CFB, are you ready for the coming weekend? Texas vs. Georgia, it is going to be wild! The highly anticipated game of the season. The Texas Longhorns have a solid 6-0 record, while Georgia has only lost one game of the season- they are 5-1. While the Longhorns are preparing for their seventh victory of the season, the Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart has praised the team as “the most complete team.” However, this acknowledgement reflects the respect he has for Texas, but at the same time, it says a lot about Georgia’s preparation for the faceoff against Steve Sarkisian’s squad.

Quarterback Carson Beck is his biggest asset, but let’s not forget that Sarkisian has Quinn Ewers leading the Texas Longhorns. Both quarterbacks have displayed some phenomenal game plays so far; their hard work and dedication simply reflect through their teams’ impressive standings. According to Cole Cubelic, a sports analyst, Smart and his staff are implementing a bold strategy that centres on a key player rather than relying solely on quarterback Carson Beck. Who’s that player?

Per Cubelic, Smart will look to his run game to take over the DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium. For any traveling team, it’s important to silence the crowd. How do you do that? Run the ba-l, su-k the energy! And Bulldogs’ running back Trevor Etienne would be most important assert for that strategy.

“I think it’s really simple. I agree with a lot of what you said about this being a Carson Beck game. I would say, not to say that it’s not going to be a Carson Beck game, but a Trevor Etienne game, because when you see what he did against Auburn late when he had the opportunity, and that wasn’t four quarters of it, and then what he did a little bit last week against Mississippi State, the dynamic nature of what he’s able to do is starting to come out. It just hasn’t been consistent.”

The Longhorn’s defense will face a significant challenge when they go up against the Bulldogs. They might have plans to stop Beck, but Sarkisian needs to spend some time with Johnny Nansen and discuss plans for stopping RB Trevor Etienne as well.

Appearing on the Josh Pate’s show, Cubelic also shed light on the need for a balanced offensive strategy for Bulldogs and mentioned, “As we’re going to give this guy (Trevor) the b-ll 35 times a game, but he’s an explosive play waiting to happen, and I think it’s through the air handing it to him. They need a little more balance. They cannot continue to get away from being just this dropback football team because the tackles have not been great in pass protection. And against this team, that’ll be a big problem.”

Etienne has rushed for 335 yards and scored four touchdowns. However, we must not forget the two QBs who would look to steal the show. Quinn Ewers and Carson Beck are seen as the first rounders in the 2025 NFL Draft, and is Kirby Smart is to be believed, they share some similarities.

Kirby Smart compares Quinn Ewers and Carson Beck

The Bulldogs are known for dominating; however, for the first time, they find themselves as underdogs. We can feel you, Bulldogs fans. However, this matchup against the Longhorns presents a unique opportunity for both teams. If the Bulldogs win, they will propel up the SEC standings, and it will also help them create a smoother path to reach Atlanta. But a loss would mark the Bulldogs’ second defeat in the SEC, likely decreasing their chances of competing in the SEC Championship game.

As both teams are preparing for the prime-time game, Smart has his take on Carson Beck and Quinn Ewers. The top two quarterbacks of the nation have showcased some extraordinary performances this season. Smart believes that Beck and Ewers have one thing in common.

Reflecting on their abilities to perform under pressure, he mentioned, “The games (Ewers) have played in, there are similarities to Beck) in terms of knowledge, understanding of their offense, and protections.” Smart added. “It doesn’t seem pressure affects him much. He seems like he has really good composure … they both have the ability, if something goes wrong, to get you out of a bad play, and typically avoid catastrophes. That’s what both quarterbacks do, and (those are) the similarities that they seem to have.”
