Georgia’s last win under Kirby Smart wasn’t all that impressive, barely scraping by Kentucky. The team looked surprisingly “mediocre” against an inferior opponent. But, maybe that was a blessing in disguise. That tough game will surely spark Smart to push his team harder ahead of their big matchup against Alabama.

Now, Georgia is more prepared than ever to take on the Crimson Tide. Even Kalen DeBoer commented on the Top Dawgs, saying, “It’s going to be extremely well-coached and we know it’s going to be a great test for us.”

The analysts of The Next Round believe that this newer version of Georgia has more odds to win the upcoming matchup. “The worst thing to happen to Alabama was Georgia getting their wake-up call against Kentucky in Lexington going into the by. Because this team was too busy reading their own press clippings.” Well, enough has been said about Georgia’s nail-biting situation in last week’s game against Kentucky (13-12), but they looked into the brighter side of this story. After having a top-notch start, Georgia became a bit relaxed, which cost them their poor performance with Kentucky. But fortunately, they got a coach like Smart, who has maintained the program’s legacy for years.

Besides, if we look into the details of their performance, there was nothing that could be called great. The first half of the game turned out to be a defensive battle between both teams. Kentucky led with a 55-yard field goal by Alex Raynor, combined with two more field goals, turned into a shocking 9-3 at halftime. Georgia’s offense was disappointingly poor, and they somehow managed one field goal before halftime.

Well, it was only after the second half, Georgia found its ground. With Peyton Woodring’s 30-yard field goal, Kentucky’s lead narrowed down to 9-6. However, until the start of the fourth quarter, Georgia was nowhere near winning that game. In the fourth quarter, when Bradley Robinson led with a touchdown score, it went up to 13-9. Soon, Kentucky bounced back with another field goal by Raynor, which brought them just a point away from the Bulldogs.

It’s sure a “perfect strategy for Kirby to get his team refocused.” Now, let’s see if this refocused crew can hold their own against Nick Saban-less Alabama, on the Tides’ home field.
