Is Garrett Nussmeier's NFL dream worth the chaos it might leave behind at LSU?

Looks like Garrett Nussmeier and the guys have finally put an end to the three-game losing streak that just wouldn’t quit. Isn’t it too late? With only one game left for the season against Oklahoma, a 24-17 win against Vanderbilt put them in the bright spot. Somehow, the Tigers offense completely bounced back in this game. Besides Brian Kelly and the offensive line, one guy you should be thanking is Garrett Nussmeier. But wait, did he just want to bid farewell to his journey at LSU? Ouch! did that hurt Kelly?

While everyone was busy celebrating the Tigers’ most-awaited win over Vandy, Nussmeier’s girlfriend penned down a message on Instagram. “So grateful to experience this journey with you. I am so proud of you,” wrote Ella Springfield in her recent Instagram story. She continued by writing, “Forever your biggest fan.” Well, well, what does that mean?

His girl has expressed her love towards him like she always does. Whether it’s cheering him on his game days or spending cozy time with him. One look at her social media, and you will know what kind of bond the couple share. But the thing is, LSU fans are already upset over it. Is he leaving to join the big league? At this point, Nussmeier has finally found his foot in the game. Last night, he made 332 yards and scored a touchdown as well. Baton Rouge was full of loud fans cheering for him.

All of a sudden, a post from his girlfriend sends a direct message about his plan to leave for the NFL. It has been weeks since the speculations about the QB’s departure. Previously, it was all around the place that Nussmeier would go for the NFL, and freshman Bryce Underwood would take care of the starting job. But you’re aware of the current situation, right? Underwood flipped to join the Michigan Wolverines and ditched to replace Nussmeier at LSU. Now, look at the statements given by an insider on this hot topic.

If Garrett Nussmeier leaves for the NFL, who’s going to be the starting QB of LSU?

An LSU insider, Jacob Verdin, raised a burning question focusing on Bryce Underwood’s flip and Garrett Nussmeier’s possible NFL departure. “Is that a new wrinkle into this whole conversation that Michigan had with Bryce Underwood and which ultimately led Bryce to flip? Is Garrett Nussmeier going to forego the NFL draft, come back, get the starting job, and Bryce was going to be the second string, be the backup, and potentially compete for a backup role? This also kind of has implications a little bit on our quarterback room.”

Have an interesting take?

You know what? If we keep aside Nussmeier’s performance against Vanderbilt for a moment, what kind of value has he added to the program? Bitter but truthfully, Garrett Nussmeier hasn’t exactly been the guy Brian Kelly hyped up for. He has thrown 11 picks this season. And even his strongest performance can’t make us forget what he did in the game against Florida.

He started the game and puffed! He did not even complete the game, and Brian Kelly had to ask AJ Swann to clean up the mess spread by him. Moving forward, if and when Nussmeier decides to move from LSU, the head coach should prepare for a different roster.

There is Conner Weigman, one of the three guys who has been giving hints about his possible transfer to the LSU Tigers. Then there is John Mateer from Washington State; although he has yet to even declare for the portal if he flips, there is a buzz that he might join LSU. Moving forward, Air Noland from Ohio State is the third guy who’s likely on his way to replace Garrett Nussmeier and take the starting position at LSU. Who do you think will make a switch?
