Who are we supporting for this one, folks? See, Brian Kelly and LSU ain’t having fun this year. That entire loss to Bama kind of shut off the team. It seemed the main crux of the problem was QB Garrett Nussmeier. Yeah, we get it; you can always blame the quarterback, but giving out those interceptions like free candy from the dentist ain’t the best way to help your team win. Garrett Nussmeier has been heavily insufficient for Kelly’s offense, and it has proven to be a bane for LSU. They even lost to Texas A&M for the same reason. Garrett Nussmeier went in and gave out 3 interceptions to the Aggies and lo-and-behold a 38-23 loss.

Now as the Tigers face off against the Sooners, a big concern with Nussmeier and his turnover problem comes to light. Back on Hunt On LSU, Hunt Palmer points out, “In Oklahoma’s five wins this year. They’ve won points off turnover 77-8. That is a massive swing.” Do you get why this is a problem? Take the Bama vs Oklahoma game. Did you ever, in your wildest dreams, think that a 5-loss team would manage to stop Alabama at 3 points?

No joke. 3 points. Lowest Bama has ever scored in 20 long years. But why did this happen? Jalen Milroe gave the Sooners 3 interceptions and multiple turnovers to work with. This added to the fact that OC Nick Sheridan tried to make the entire offense game about passes completely wipe off Bama’s shot at a fair chance for the playoffs.

“We know that turnovers have been a Bugaboo for Garrett Nussmeier this year,” Palmer noted. Against that one Vandy game, Garrett was on point and didn’t mess up with interceptions. How did that end up for the Tigers? A 28-14 win.

But here is the thing: even if they survive the rush defense, is there enough offensive depth to bring in points on the table? Kelly had pointed this out before“I don’t think we give him enough balance within the offense.” So the question now is, will Oklahoma once again go for the classic rush defense and curb-stomp the Tigers, or will Nussmeier pull out a miracle and end the season on a good note?

What’s your perspective on:

Can Garrett Nussmeier turn his season around, or is he LSU's Achilles' heel this year?

Have an interesting take?

Sooners are on the heel

Let’s start with some important stats. For LSU, even if we assume that Oklahoma is a subpar team with only 6 wins, you still gotta keep in mind that Brian Kelly and Co. aren’t doing that well when it comes to overall field presence. LSU is 15th on total scoring offense. 16th in yards per carry and 16th in passing offense.

Does this even look good for a team that is going up against a defense as elite as the Sooners? Well, to give LSU some leeway, the Oklahoma offense is a joke. The only way the team won over Bama was through the defensive turnovers, which Palmer pointed out before.

Now, what Kelly can do is create an opening for Nussmeier to throw the football. If they manage to pull another Vandy incident here, then this could be an easy win at Baton Rouge. If not, then we all know what happened to the Crimson Tide.
