FSU did win after getting their new 6’6 weapon, Tommy Castellanos, who’s turning heads over this spring season. A week back, Florida State’s football team put up his video throwing a pass to WR Duke Robinson. And bam, he is a worldwide sensation. That pass? A perfect spiral, a work of pure art, cut cleanly through the thick, sticky Florida air. Look, going from 13-1 to 2-10 forces change, and that change is Tommy. Get this: He’s only had five practices, and he’s already acting like a pro—other QBs are trying to follow him. Wild, right? Even Mike Norvell’s grinning like crazy because he knows how good Tommy is.

But who’s this FSU’s prodigy who’s taking notes from their QB Tommy Castellanos this spring game? It’s Mike Norvell’s another 3-star QB weapon, Kevin Sperry, who’s been locked into the program since last year. Now, talking about Tommy’s skills and leadership quality, Kevin says on the Noles247, “He’s been great. I think he brings a lot of maturity, a lot of leadership, obviously to the quarterback room, but the whole offense. So just listening to him—listening to how he talks to the receivers, how he talks to the O-line, how he communicates plays—I think it’s been great for me, just learning that so I’m able to do that when I go on the field.”

No wonder that’s going to be the case. As Tommy Castellanous not only brings experience and leadership, but also a whole lot of talent. This guy rushed for 1,113 yards and 13 TDs 2 years back as a dual-threat star at Boston College and passed for 2,248 yards with 15 TDs. Even last season he put up some great numbers, passing for 1,366 yards for 18 TDs with just 5 interceptions. He is exactly the guy Mike Norvell needs after last season’s QB misery after DJ Uiagalelei’s hand injury.

But don’t ignore the fact that Tommy Castellanos also a lot of self-confidence. As he wasn’t shy about speaking his mind after practice, the video went viral. “I’m like a Jameis Winston type. I’m coming out there, I’m hype, I’m goofy. I’m playing with the guys, just trying to have that fun about it. So, you know, you want to have fun at practice and good energy and good vibes. So I’m kind of that goofy type that laughs and tries to joke around and get the guys going.” Comparing yourself with a Heisman winner and FSU’s legendary player shows the kind of confidence Tommy has in him.

Even Mike Norvell is making sure they don’t repeat last year’s mistake. As Florida State hired Gus Malzahn to fix their offense, Castellanos already sees improvement. “He’s excited, he’s more energetic, he’s happy,” he said about coach Malzahn. “He’s happy to be here, he’s happy to coach us, and just focus on one thing. That’s helping him a lot. He’s happy every day, and he’s getting the best out of us every single day.”

But Tommy Castellano’s presence in the team is not the only thing that’s making buzz. Mike Norvell might just land his long-time 4-star target real soon.

Mike Norvell gets massive recruiting update

Well, Florida State’s long time target four-star defensive tackle Daverin “Deuce” Geralds is finally looking positive. All thanks to coach Mike Norvell’s impressive efforts. A few months ago, FSU was barely a consideration for Geralds. Now, they’re a top contender. Geralds made two recent visits to Tallahassee, one during Legacy Weekend in March and another this past Tuesday. The turning point? Norvell’s dramatic arrival by helicopter to see Geralds at his school. That impactful gesture completely changed Geralds’ perspective. As Geralds put it, “With the way he is coming at me and approaching me, if I’m really considering them (FSU), I need to give them a fair chance like I have other schools.”

This recruiting process was unusual—it bypassed the usual position coaches and regional recruiters. Coach Norvell took the lead himself. That personal touch really impressed Geralds. “That’s really something that has popped out to me,” he said. After an earlier offer from then-offensive line coach Alex Atkins, Norvell and defensive line coach Terrance Knighton followed up. A communication breakdown could have derailed things, but Norvell stepped in, took charge, and made a direct impact Geralds won’t forget.

Now, Gerald’s top ten schools are FSU, Clemson, Oregon, Ohio State, Michigan, Georgia Tech, LSU, Oklahoma, Miami, and Ole Miss. However, no one, not even the top contenders, has secured an official visit yet. Gerald plans to complete his spring visits before committing. He’s considering using all five official visits, but narrowing down his choices is proving difficult.

That’s why early visits to FSU are crucial; he wants to evaluate each school fairly and determine their actual standing. “I didn’t want my first visit to Florida State to be my OV,” Geralds said. “I wanted to come here, get a feel for the place, the facilities, the community and the coaches.” Seems like a smart move. Securing an official visit could make FSU a serious contender, even a top threat, for a top-3 DT in the 2026 class. Now, let’s just wait and see how things turn out for them.
