Can Matt Rhule outmaneuver Steve Sarkisian again, or will Sarkisian claim the elite prospect this time?

It was a humbling experience for Deion Sanders and Colorado when Matt Rhule and Nebraska made heads turn with their dominant 28-10 victory. But one of the things in the game that stood out was the presence of some elite prospects who headlined the culture clash. The list includes 5-star WR prospect Michael Terry III of the 2025 class.

Recruiting QB Dylan Raiola has worked wonders for Nebraska who managed to secure a 40-7 win in their season opener and flip the history with Colorado in Week 2. Now, Michael Terry is the No. 1 athlete in the nation and is pursued by CFB powerhouses like Texas and Oregon. It’s his third visit to Nebraska, and this game seems to have won his interest.

Senior recruiting analyst Justin Wells joined Josh Newberg on The Inside Scoop show to express his opinions on Matt Rhule’s pursuit of Michael Terry. In a YouTube video uploaded by On3 Recruits on September 9, Wells gave an interesting response to Newberg’s question on Terry’s interest in Texas and Nebraska. He said, “I think that Nebraska game was big… With Nebraska’s big win, they absolutely humbled Colorado and Shedeur Sanders. I think that makes it interesting. I think that makes this recruitment a little bit more something we’re going to have to pay closer attention to.

Right now, Michael Terry has a 91.7% chance of joining Steve Sarkisian in Texas with Nebraska, sharing only 2.1% odds. But the response that Terry gave after the Huskers’ big win has given hope to fans. He said, “It was crazy. Players coaching staff and fans was hyped. The environment of the staff and player is good and every time I go they are improving things.” Will Rhule and the Huskers get the edge over Texas to win this valuable player’s commitment?

How interested is Michael Terry in Matt Rhule’s program?

Back in May, Michael Terry voiced his interest in going to a team that has a “home feeling.” After his visit to Nebraska, he was satisfied with what he saw and felt as he said, “It was crazy. I did not expect that many people to go out to the spring game, so that was a pretty crazy experience.” As for the feeling of being home, he lauded Matt Rhule’s program, saying, “Definitely Nebraska has given me that feeling so far. It was a great weekend, and my family and I had a great time. We got to see a lot of stuff around the campus. It was a good one.”

Still, there is a high chance of him committing to Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns ultimately. Terry’s goal is to be in the NFL someday, and he feels that Texas is the right place to be. After getting an offer from Texas, he said, “It’s a really big thing to get an offer from them. Coming from my hometown, that’s a big school and they’ve had a lot of success. What Coach Sark has going on over there [is impressive]. He’s getting a lot of guys into the NFL and bettering their careers.” The Longhorns had a strong start to the 2024 season with a pristine 52-0 record against CSU and 31-12 against reigning National Champions Michigan.
