Giving up a bad habit involves lots of sacrifices. For instance, giving up alcohol means no more wild parties, fewer social invitations, no more drinking to cope with stress, and no more drinking to celebrate. You also see your social circle dwindle. Ole Miss HC Lane Kiffin made the right choice at the right time. And he just found a reason to celebrate his decision four years ago.
On December 10, Lane Kiffin found an inspirational video that gave him immense comfort over his alcohol sacrifice. He shared a video of Bradley Cooper on Sober Renewal podcast on his Instagram story with the caption, “This is exactly my story!! Thx for sharing exp the Dad part.” In the video, the Grammy Award-winning actor described his journey as a sober man as “beautiful” and “unbelievable.” He said, “I’d never be sitting here with you. No way. No chance. Because I wouldn’t have been able to have access to myself or other people.”

Bradley Cooper nearly drowned his stardom in his late 20s when his alcohol addiction started. But his decision to quit the bad habits in 2004 did wonders for him just as it is doing with Lane Kiffin. The 49-year-old’s addiction began during his coaching stints at Oakland and USC but they weren’t publicized. However, after it began to affect his career, health, and relationship with his close ones, he made the tough decision and stuck to it for years.
Lane Kiffin is nearly four years sober now. And that’s one of the best decisions he made as said, “I’m still not perfect, still have my moments. But there’s a freedom in not feeling like you need a drink to celebrate a big win or get over a tough loss.” He has profound insight into life and addiction. It’s admirable of him to spread inspiration saying, “For those of you that may have something holding you back from being the best version of yourself, I encourage you that you can do it… We only have one shot at this life on earth. Go be the best you can be.” Thanks to his decision, he is where he is today with Ole Miss.

Lane Kiffin continues to lead a successful team
Let’s face it. Ole Miss didn’t make it to the 12-team playoff games. But that doesn’t mean they haven’t had a successful season. Lane Kiffin led the Rebels to a 9-3 season with impressive wins over South Carolina and Georgia who won the SEC Championship game by defeating Steve Sarkisian and Texas twice this season. They may be out of the playoffs but they’re still among the top 25 on the final CFP rankings at No. 14.
Lane Kiffin is 43-18 with Ole Miss. This season marks his fifth year in Oxford and this is the fifth straight time he’s leading the Rebels to a bowl appearance. They’ll face Duke in the Taxslayer Gator Bowl on January 3. Kiffin would undoubtedly credit this success to his sober State of mind.
