Tyriq Green, the 4-star athlete, is increasingly becoming a hot commodity in the college football recruitment battle. Almost every college is after him. That includes major programs like FSU, USC, and Ryan Day’s championship-winning OSU. Naturally, such cutthroat competition in recruitment will make coaches go wild in attempting to sign the top prospect. But it seems one of the top coaches of the SEC is already on the verge of winning that battle.

Yes, it’s none other than Georgia Bulldogs’ head coach, Kirby Smart. Who, with his charisma and superior negotiation tactics, has ultimately almost landed the top prospect. The player had recently visited the Bulldogs’ camp and had nothing but praise for the head coach, Smart, and the staff. “It was good going up there a couple of times this year, getting to sit and talk to Kirby [Smart], and just keep building our strong relationship, they are like family up there now“. Tyriq Green also said that he enjoyed the visit and was also very impressed with the sense of family within the team.

Kirby Smart, who is the richest college football coach, also boasts a contract that stands tall at $130 million. His ten-year contract will guarantee him the full payment if he is to be fired without sufficient cause by the end of 2028. Looking at his two national championships, there’s no doubt that he’s one of the best coaches out there. That is also seen in how he pursues the recruitment game.

Coach Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs have 5 total prospects committed for their 2026 class. Amongst them, the 4-star cornerback Jontavius Wyman had words of praise for Tyriq and hinted at the intention to want to play with him. “I want to get Nassir McCoy, Tyriq Green, Ryan Mosely, Jared Curtis, Kaiden Protho, and Savion Hiter. I’m coming to get them and Tyler (Atkinson)”. The cornerback certainly knows the potential that Tyriq has and is looking to partner with him on the field. It is looking quite certain that Tyriq will sign for the Bulldogs, but there are other teams too in the battle to land him.

One of the teams among the huge number of programs looking for the services of Tyriq is FSU. He visited their training camp earlier and shared his thoughts on Coach Mike Norvell. The relationship is good,” Green spoke about the Seminoles. “Every time I see Coach Norvell, he has great energy. The energy is very high. He’s happy to see me. And I am happy to see him.” He also added that Coach Norvell had gone out of his way to develop a ‘genuine’ relationship with him.

For starters, he is an athlete and has the capability to play several positions, both on offense and defense. In high school, he was majorly featured as a running back and safety in defense which saw him achieving more than 1,500 yards and 21 TDs. That also includes 5 games where he ran for 100 yards. Defensively he had been very efficient and has executed 69 tackles, which also includes his 28 tackles in the 2024 season alone (his highest). But his versatility doesn’t end here. He also has played various games as a receiver and has caught 18 passes for almost 320 yards. With this level of versatility, it seems he is on the way to becoming the next Travis Hunter. No Wonder every major college is after him. The verdict?

Well, currently FSU, Ohio State, Georgia, and USC are all in contention to land the top prospect. He also visited USC and OSU later in January which may influence his decision too. However, if probability rankings are to be believed, the Bulldogs are ranked 1st at a 48.8% chance of landing him by a margin. So, it seems Kirby Smart’s exploits might have actually paid dividends.
