The regular season came to an end, and it couldn’t get any better for the Colorado Buffaloes’ one of the hottest sensations, Shedeur Sanders. A Heisman Trophy race, an overwhelming season of highs and lows, and the challenge of reaching a bowl game—it all chiseled the best out of him. Yes, it would certainly add some more value if he lifted the natty for the Buffs or at least capped off the season and his career at Boulder with a bowl win, but never mind! His 3,926 passing yards, 37 touchdowns, and only five interceptions were nothing short of remarkable. Please keep Travis Hunter away from the comparison. Rather, bring Cam Ward if you want in a potential NFL draft comparison.

We are getting too much of Shedeur Sanders vs. Travis Hunter on our plate throughout the season. The duo might look like fierce competitors when it comes to the NFL or Heisman, but they are beyond friends off the chart. Shedeur had been the biggest cheerleader of his friend in his lofty Heisman race, throwing his own to the winds. So, let’s move from the fake rivals and look at the real ones. Miami Hurricanes’ beating heart, Cam Ward, has led the team to a 10-3 record and a compelling postseason. Can Ward beat Deion’s kid as the number one signal caller selected in the 2025 NFL draft? Former NFL scout John Middlekauff has an unpopular, unconventional take.

‘I think Cam is the better athlete with a bigger arm and I think you could talk yourself into him being number one. He’s got a little bit of an edge to him I’ve been told,” said Middlekauff. He then ended the ‘top QB’ debate on a controversial note, adding, “Shedeur is more polished. I don’t think either is a prospect. I don’t think either one of them is Caleb, Jayden Daniels. I don’t think either one of them I like throwing the ba-ls as well as Michael Penix. How do you view them as a former NFL scout? I think they’re B+ prospects.”

When you dive into the stats, calling these guys “B+ prospects” feels like a stretch. Ward had a Heisman-worthy season, throwing for an impressive 3,494 yards, 32 touchdowns, and just 6 interceptions. Those numbers scream elite, not just ‘pretty good.’

On the flip side, Shedeur Sanders is in a league of his own. While he might not have the size or sturdiness of his Miami Hurricanes counterpart, his precision is unmatched. Leading the FBS with a jaw-dropping 74.2% completion rate this season, Sanders has proven himself as the most accurate quarterback in the country.

”Every time I looked up, he was getting killed. He’s tough; he can handle it. I think Cam Ward’s grades are going to be all over the map I think it’s going to be a pretty fascinating prospect, but I think when the dust settles, probably if I was a betting man, Shedeur ends up going number one overall,” John said, adding more layers to the quintessential Cam Ward-Shedeur Sanders. But where is Deion’s kid seeing himself drafted?

Deion Sanders has long been concerned about his son’s NFL future. The veteran coach has some criteria fixed for his son’s next ride in the world of football. Sanders wants anything but a tough, professional coach for his son. He would rather go for an easy-going, eager-to-teach, young coach to train his son in his professional era.

Despite a lot of hype and hump all around the globe, Sanders didn’t say anything final about his or his son’s choice. But we could read the pulse; well, it’s not that tough if you closely paid attention to the crumbs. The college star recently hinted at his potential NFL destination with a pair of custom cleats. No, it’s not the Las Vegas Raiders.

Shedeur’s Raiders’ landing chance looked like a real deal unless and until the Raiders knocked out the Jacksonville Jaguars, which elevated their rank from No. 1 to No. 6 in the draft order entering Week 17. They have a chance to further improve or hurt their draft spot, but Shedeur is less likely to wait.

The Buffs’ QB promised to reveal his NFL inclination through a pair of cleats last week. And it was not hollow, as the athlete really came out in a pair of New York Giants-inspired cleats with the Giants’ logo embedded on them. Sanders did not wear them during the Alamo Bowl; he wore them during the pre-game warmup.

But it barely matters. While Shedeur’s dropping hints about the Giants, another top QB prospect, Ward, is also in the mix. Both QBs are coming off tough bowl losses—Shedeur with Colorado and Ward in a wild 42-42 shootout against Iowa State. But Ward showed some serious skills that could make him a hot commodity. It’ll be interesting to see where these two talented QBs land with the Giants in April.
